    Hi,

I have been ripping for a while, and usually use DVD Shrink.

I have recently started using DVD Decrypter to rip as well.

When it rips it shows the rate at which it is ripping in Kbps.

I have noticed that when i rip this figure slowly goes up......i can sort of understand this as the drive slowly gets up to full speed.

But then when it gets to around 60 - 75% it slows down again

(i start around 5Mbps, get up to 10.5Mbps and drop to around 6-7Mbps at 100%)

    Does anyone else get this?

    Does it sound normal??

    thanks in advance

Layer Break. 2nd layer is always slower than a single layer disk.

I wondered but whats weird is that it slows down constantly but gradually it slows down by about 10-15kbps/sec, and not a jump down that i would perhaps expect for a layer change....

  4. It's because the laser reads from the inside to the outside on the first layer, hence the speed increase. Once it switches layers it starts to read from the outside back to the inside, which is why the speed gradually drops back down in the second half of the rip.
