Wow, Newegg just dropped their price today to $129. I returned my NEC 2500A and paid the 15% restocking fee for two reasons. It couldn't write to Ritek G03 2X media. I have a lot of that media left. The write quality on the ritek G03 was very poor. The NEC burner could not read it back.
So, I got the Pioneer 107D ($138). The big surprise was that the Ritek G03 that the NEC had burnt, the Pioneer could read it perfectly. That disk could not be read back by the NEC, it failed the Nero CD speed test. Then played it in my Lite-On combo drive. it finished reading it but the CD Speed line looked terrible. Now the Pioneer read it perfectly with a perfectly straight CD Speed line. How about that?
What I'm trying to say is that the Pioneer 107D is not only good in wrting on DVD media, it's even better in reading bad DVD media.
