  1. Lads!

    SPECS:

DMA on all devices is on, dubble checked...
    Most recent drives are installed...

    again, me with a question....

When I started out a couple of weeks ago with burning, i didn't encounterd any problems with, nero (ok it had unknow burnphase, but that was not big) copytoDVD or what so ever...
As i speek installed, dvdxcopy etc... several programma's to test my needs what's good or not...

I posted in one of my topics about problems i had with copytodvd...

So i thought, Ok, let's change the writer to Master, check cabels etc...
But this doens't solve the problem my comp is in...

    Nero 6.3
    dvdcopy express ?
    copytodvd

All these programma's freeze when then enden reading my burner. the media is -R. It seems like there are scared stiff when they read -R, because, as said on other formums with this same problem, when +R used, everything goes fine...

In installed nero a couple of times. cleaned everything up installed various versions of nero... like I said, the first time using nero, I only had problems with unknown burnphase, and copytoDVD freezed. but now everything freezes when files are checked etc....

I read it has to do with the VIA chipset. no i don't know al lot about that, al I know is that I have a VIA EDI Bus controller... is that the samen, ok doesn't matter

I use XP prof. without any SP's

and once again, i dind't had this problem with any burntool. and now al the major burntools go bezerk...
And don't want to use an other tool (due to experimenting)

I've looked the forum, and the net, but it seems this is a commen problem without a single sollution...

so come on up with your ideas, and let's start brainstorming on this isue 8)

    thanx! foulks!

    D. 8)

PS. this problem doesn't occur for example burning with DVDdecrypter...

  2. Good morning

I realised this morning, that I asked in a way a similar question en few days ago...

My purpose with this thread is to make some sort of a stickey... meaning that all the options for freezed Burn appz will be sumed up here...
Cause I found out that is and can be a big issue for people and because there isn;t much to find, meaning a awnser that will solve these probs...

My goal is to make it a FAQ. Although I know that there can be muliplte awnsers for every user, it's always handy to have direct sollutions at hand...

    I Hope It makes sensce

  3. In order to be shure your burnappz wil work you can test the following:
    • - start the burnapp that has problems.
      - Use a DVD-R and to burn it. I.E when using Nero, just simulate do no actual burn. If Nero hangs with that. then you know there's a prob.
      - Do the same with DVD+R. chances are, that this will work.
      - when working, you can conclude the following.

    * DVD+R works, but how to when you want to burn a DVD-R, maybe because your stand-alone player only works with DVD-r.

    Thirst things you can check:
    • - Are there any applications running in the background, that may interfear (I.E: virusscanners, firewalls or other burning appz...). If using nero, and neroimagedrive is running, try shutting down this first, maybe this will work
      - What you can do, is when your computer has started, exit al programma;s that are of no use..., I.E everything that's in your systemtray

    Test again? no?

    Here my ideas stop...

    For CopytoDVD, if it hangs, you can try the following;
    • Here you can find some tips and advices that can save your time, our time and your nerves.

Please follow all these guidelines. If all applied and you still have a problem, email us and we will be glad to help you. 90% of the problems can be solved by following these advices.

      1) Do you have the latest version of the concerned VSO product? Be sure by downloading from the download page.

      2) Do you have the latest firmware for your hardware (CD/DVD writer)? If you are not sure, check the information on this page:
      http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/LatestFirmwareUpdates.asp
      or
      http://www.cdfreaks.com/drive

      3) Did you turn off any anti-virus and other burning applications which might access the CD/DVD units at the same time?
Note 1: A lot of users reported problems with NAV on some configurations. If you have MMC errors etc., please disable the anti-virus software during the writing process.
Note 2: A lot of users reported problems with VIA and nVidia low level drivers (i.e. IDE drivers). Sometimes Microsoft certified drivers work better, sometimes a new version of the drivers from VIA/nVidia can help. Please post your problems on the forums or contact us if you are unsure.

      4) Do you use an illegal key? Illegal licenses can produce instabilities in the code. The solution is to register, then you will be able to access and request assistance from our technical support team. Click here to buy.

      5) Are you using appropriate media for your operation? (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM, CDR, CDRW) Each format is different and can have a differnet behaviour depending on your system. The key to a good backup is to use good media. Check if the media you are using is highly compatible with your hardware. Check this link (https://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters) to see what users think about the hardware and media you are using. If you suddenly have problems with MMC errors, please try various media before contacting us. Also don't believe the marketing about the speed. The slower the writing speed (4x or 8x for CD), the better the backup.
You can also download this tool : http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ to check the capabilities of your writer. You can check is the drive support the format ( + or - ) of media you are using.

      6) Did you check the surface of the media? It is a stupid, but widespread mistake. Check if the media to read and/or write is clean, scratch-less, not too transparent or damaged. The quality of the surface can greatly influence the overall backup process.

      7) Did you let the system work quietly during the process? If you don't have problems, you can interact with your computer of course, but if you have any faulty behaviour, please do not use your system during a read/write operation, especially when Blindwrite is extracting topology information!

      8) Try a different unit. Even if you have a reader and a writer, the backup quality highly depends on the hardware. There are no rules about which is the best to use, you will have to try for yourself. If you have a playback problem, try to use your writer for reading first. Some units can be damn slow compared to others. The best manufacturers depending on our experience are Plextor, Lite-on (writers), LG (recent units), and Sony (DVD writers). The most problematics drives are Toshiba, old LG, Pioneer, TDK, and MSI. Of course it doesn't mean it will not work if you are using an unlisted manufacturor or model, it just means we don't know all the models and it depends on your own use of our products.

      9) If a backup created by BlindWrite doesn't work properly on another computer than it was created on, please install BlindWrite or Autoplay (available for free, even for unregistered users) on the client computer. Autoplay is used to improved the compatibility of the backup in your system.

      10) If nothing helps, please do a simple test... select all files on the source media, copy and paste them to your hard drive, if you have an error during the process, it means your system is unstable or your optical unit is unable to read this CD for some reason... In this case, it's normal that BlindWrite or CopyToDVD are unable to work correctly.

If you checked these 10 points and you still have a problem, please contact us, and PLEASE prepare your log to send it to us if requested (C2CD.LOG or BW5.LOG in the corresponding application folder), please include in your email your MSN Messager ID or ICQ to let us contact you back and assist in your problem
    .

That's it for now for burn appz.

Some comen guidelines: (most talked about when encountering these probs)
    • Check out your hardware config. Especially the IDE pathways - you should have your faster drives (hard disk) on your primary IDE, your slower (DVD, CD and burners) on the secondary. That way, each can operate in the optimal transfer mode (DMA 5 or DMA 2).

Make sure you are at the latest firmware for all of your optical drives.

Use the media that is proven to work best with your drive. This site has the info you need. Don't try to burn lower speed media at a higher rate even if your software says it can. Some burners will not burn the 4x media without a minimum level of firmware.

Use simple and proven tools to rip and burn. DVD Shrink works flawlessly for me as all I do is backup the main movie. You can either use the burning engine of DVD Decrypter or Nero to do the burning. Some people have a problem with only being able to burn a single copy using DVD Shrink. However, since it saves your VIDEO_TS data to your hard drive, you can easily use Nero or DVD Decrypter to burn as many more as you need.

You may need to try other media. Not all media burns cleanly AND reads cleanly in a standalone. Some will burn and be readable by a computer optical drive but fail on a standalone player. Once you find a media that burns and reads cleanly, stick with it. BTW, the more expensive name-brand stuff won't necessarily solve the problem. I found some inexpensive stuff that is just about 100% successful for my purposes. However, I believe that media-burner and media-player compatibility varies and can only be determined through personal usage.

For now, if you have updates or new info, feel free to post it, and use the list button to make it all clearer for reading!

    thanx!

  4. Good morning!

Here are some more solutions if you burnapzz freezes:
    • - If you have two DVD/CD-rom devices, espescially two burners, disconnect the burner you don't use fore your DVD, if possible...

      - also check if your connectors on your motherboard and and your rom devices are proper attached. it can happen that a cable isn't good plugged in. Maybe chang

-Download the latest ASAPI drivers. which can be found here:
      http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product.html?sess=no&language=Engl...dkey=ASPI-4.70
install them, and use the tool that's included to check if new drivers are installed and working properly...

      - When using DVD-R, there's a good opportunity that maybe the cause of all the freezes (It was one of the solutions that worked for me) try using DVD+R. Note: My player said to be DVD+R non-compatibel. I found out different. Try it anyhow, maybe your luckey like me , that your player does support DVD+R

      - use a DVD+RW for testing if your player is compatible with + DVD's
Burn a movie on it, and check it out (crossing your fingers sometimes work )

      - If you have only DVD-R, try an other program that works without any problems. for example, CloneDVD doesn't show any problems here with my computer.

      - use a DVD+RW for testing if your player is compatible with + DVD's
