  1. Hi all,
some questions on DVD-VCDs and backing up original DVDs to 1 DVDR.

    1) I've got some VCD images on my hard drive and I wanted to burn them to a DVD+R, therefore having a few movies on one DVD. I think it is first necessary to change the audio from 44khz to 48khz, then burn them to DVD+R. Is this correct?

    2) If I do this, will I still be able to burn the VCD images to CDR and play them as normal VCDs even though their audio will be 48khz, or will I have to keep 2 versions of the same VCD. One to burn normal VCDs and one to burn DVD-VCDs?

    3) Is all of the above still true for xvcds? will I need 1 versions of the same xvcd?

    4) Also, Ive heard that there is a programme called DVD X Copy Platinum which allows you to back up original DVDs to DVD+R, but usualy requires more than 1 DVD+R to do this (because of the size of the movie+ extras). Is there anyway to Back up a DVD Movie to 1 DVD+R even if it means removing some of the extra stuff? Can you pick and choose which stuff to keep/discard? Is this the best programme for this perpose?

If you can help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks,

First, you really need to do some reading. Everything you have asked can be found in the guides, but I will help you in the right direction.

    1) DVD requirements are listed here . For VCD-DVD to be fully DVD compliant you must have mpeg-1 CBR less than 1850Kbps. 25fps 352*288 for PAL or 29.97fps 352*240 for NTSC. Note 23.97fps is not valid. Audio must be 48khz.

If you want to create a VCD with those specs, including the audio, then it will be an XVCD. the X in XVCD simply denotes it is non standard. How far off standard will still play in your DVD player depends on the make/model of player.

    2) see 1 above

    3) see 1 above.

    4) Probably the best program for backing up DVD's to DVDr ir DVDshrink. Its free. There are several guides to its use. Try it.

  3. Thanks a lot.
Sorry about asking all that stuff, I really appreciate it. I did try to search the forums, but some times you get so many possible matches back that it is a bit overwelming and can be hard to figure out bits of info from many sources, and pin them all together. I'll try harded next time.
