I am new to the art of VCD burning. I coverted a 700meg avi to mpeg for the first time using TMPGenc (the latest version). The picture quality is perfect however, for some reason, there is no sound. I checked all of the settings and tried to convert the file several times, but there is just no sound. I am told that the file is most likely Xvid and I need a codec. If this is true, where can i get it, what do i do with it, where do i install it, etc. If not, what do i do, or what did i do wrong.

Test your file with Gspot and get the audio and/or video codecs.

    Oh..and welcome to the forum!

I re-read your post and I realize it's the mpeg that has no sound. Make sure you have the codecs (see above) and extract the audio from your avi into a wav file. I prefer Goldwave as it handles most audio types, just load the avi in Goldwave then save to create the wav file. Use the avi as the video source for TMPGEnc and the wav as the audio source. That should fix your problem.

  3. You may have Ac3 audio in your file - as mentioned earlier, use Gspot and have a look at the codec (sound). If the avi file plays well in media player, the proper codec is installed but TMPGENC only handles mp3 or wav audio.

For Ac3 I use VirtualDub AC3 version to extract the audio to an AC3 file, then use Headac3he to convert the AC3 sound file to a PCM wav file, then encode the avi file using the resulting wav file as a sound source.

Hey folks. Thanks for the help. I've managed to get the sound to work. Just one more question... I have a large file and have to split it onto to two discs. How is it possible to split wav file i have converted into two files two match the split i make in the mpg file? I want them to match up...I use Acoustica Audio Mixer to split files usually, but i want them to match up properly.

PS> (If this is not possible how can i minimize the file size (wav and mpg) to fit onto one vcd. the current mpg size is 730megs.
