I tried Instantcopy 8 on a few movies. After using the Custom Size instead of Auto, the final size of the movie is only like 4500MB instead of like DVD2One or DVD Shrink of somewhere 4680MB. With IC8 set to Highest Quality, would this still better than DVD2one or Shrink in terms of PQ even though the size is smaller? Anyone noticed this? Thanks.

most of the time ic8 will have the best quality. it has sizing problems, so it almost never uses the whole disc.

Not a lot of people are jumping in to help you because maybe people feel with DVD shrink being around for free, using IC is a waste of time. I find that for most of my needs, DVD Shrink is more than good enough. However, when I need to compress a movie to less than 75% of its original size, I still use IC8.
I think to be able to increase the size of the output files, you need to install and run Instant Copy's Hidden Settings utility. You can find it in mrbass's guide here:
http://www.mrbass.org/instantcopy/
After you run the Hidden Settings, click on the "Recommended" button. It sets the recommended settings for you and you should get a confirmation.
In mrbas's guide, you will see the use of the slider to change the size of the output files. The slider needs to go a fair amount into the red. To make the slider go past green, I hold the "F5" button on the keyboard, and then I use the right arrow key on the keyboard to make the slider go into the red. I keep holding F5 and hitting the right arrow key until I get to the setting I want. If I use the mouse to drag the slider, it will go past but then when I release the mouse, the slider jumps back to its original position. I increase the setting from 4.2 GB to 4.7 and sometimes 4.8. Don't be afraid to experiment. -
Thanks for the response. I too, am using Shrink. However, I have a movie that the best Shrink will do is 65% so I thought I will give IC8 a try but ended up using shrink because of the size issue. I haven't use IC8 on any movies yet. However, I tried it on a few movies and they all turned out undersize. I was just wondering why I have not seen more people complain about this and thought it was my problem. Thanks for clearing this up for me. I will give the Hidden editor a try. Again, thanks for the feedback.

I tried one DVD (2.35:1). IC8 generates 3.6GB and Shrink generates 4.7GB. It seems that there is no difference in quality. In fact, IC8 is a little better than Shrink semmingly. Looks like Shrink's extra bits are useless. Maybe they are just for black bar. IC8 removes black bar, which makes the size small but makes users uncomfortable.
Anyone who knows the algorithm could give the answer easily. -
If you look back to when IC7 was introduced this was a major topic. Many hoped it would be fixed in IC8, it was not. And more discussion ensued. But this discussion has subdue, mostly in part that most seem to be using DVDshrink now, or they just gave up. Whatever the reason, beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
Blah, blah, blah
