Just got a E80 and have a question about editing programs. If you want to cut off the first minutes of a program how do you enter the START of the edit. It seems you would have to keep a few seconds because the programs starts playing immediately before you could hit enter. Likewise to cut off the end of a program, entering the END of an edit. I usually set timer for a few minutes before and after a program airs and want to chop off the excess at the beginning and end before dubbing to dvd-r. Thanks.

I think I have an answer to my own question. Just divide the excess off as seperate programs. Right?

First press the direct navigator botton (NW of the enter button). Select the program you wish to edit with the up/down buttons, then press the right arrow button and select "shorten segment" from the menu. The shorten segment screen will appear. Select the start of the show with the transport keys, and select "start", select the end of the section you want to erase with the transport keys and press "end" then select "erase" and "OK"

I've used the short segment to delete commercials from programs. It seems you would have to be quick on the trigger to hit start at the 0:00 point of the program. Since I'm going to be deleting the VERY beginning and end of a program(ex: "the following program is rated PG, etc), instead of doing: start-end-next-erase within shorten segment, just go into divide, fast forward to start of movie, and divide off what I don't want, erase that program, and dub the movie program to dvd-r.
