This an inexpensive portable DVD player that I've had for only a few days but what I've discovered in format compatibility is just bizarre. The first day I tried a large number of discs in a variety of formats; DVD-Video, -R, +R, +RW, SVCD, Mpeg - and it played them all apparently perfectly. I was very pleased.
The second day, it played only commercial and -R disc. The exact same +R, +RW etc. disks that worked before can no longer be loaded. To make a long story short, I eventually discovered that setting the region code from 0 to 1, made everything work again - for a while.
The next day, things get much wierder. All -R but one still work (the one that doesn't is identical brand and authoring to the ones that work). 2 out of 5 +R work (all +R are the same brand and the ones that don't load worked fine the day before), none of my +RW load, the SVCD and Mpeg discs still work. So I naturally think that changing the region code might fix everything again. But this time I can change the region code all I want and it won't make a bit of difference to what discs will load and which won't.
I don't really think there is a solution to my problem (as I understand it, Polaroid doesn't have firmware revisions) but I'd like to know what might possiby cause this bizarre behaviour? It will be a month before I get back to Costco to exchange it but I'm afraid that even if a new one works for a while, it will eventually do what this one is doing.
