Thanks for the help in advance.
I have tried searching the posts and guides and have not found exactly what I am looking for but I know its gotta be on here somewhere.
I just need to know what sort of settings I should use when I am doing my encoding in Adobe Premiere.
Basically I am capturing some tv episodes from my tivo and am editing out the commercials and am then burning them onto DVD's. I would like to know the optimal settings so I get good picture quality and can fit the most amount of "Time" onto the dvd. Currently I am using 5000 bitrade with 39 encoder quality and dvd multiplexing. Everything else is default.
I am using the svideo cable and rca left and right for the audio. Like I said the main thing I want to do is fit more "time" onto the dvd. Also is there a guide to tell you the settings you should choose if you are capturing from different sources such as a vcr so your not "wasting" megabytes by choosing too high of quality settings?
Thanks
Brad

I use DV-AVI, 720 x 480
The bit rate is adjusted either when I encode the MPEG-2 file or when I drop the AVI into my DVD authoring program and I set the bit rate when I author the DVD.
I suggest you keep the video file as an AVI while you are editing it. -
It is an avi file while I am doing my editing. The main part I am speaking of is when you click "Export timeline" and then choose adobe mpeg encoder. The resulting mpegs is what I am trying to minimize the size.
Thanks

Use a bitrate calculator to figure the maximum bitrate that you can use. A good free one is available on this website under the "tools" section.
All you need to do is enter the total minutes of your timeline, your audio bitrate, and number of DVD discs that you want it to fit on. It will calculate the maximum bitrate that you can use. Enter that bitrate into your encoder.

My capture settings are always NTSC/DV 720x480 "Real Time Preview" in Premiere 6.5. Choose PAL if in Europe. You won't experience any quality loss as this exceeds the quality you will get from a VCR.
