Well I have to tell ya pioneer 120s owners should rejoice. This version of Shrink eliminates any problems with that Dvd rom drive.
Believe me I know I own one and in past versions got nothing but errors. But now it works perfectly. A single layer disk was ripped in 7 min 3 sec. a double layer in 15 min 3 sec. Not bad for a one gig processor with 512 megs of ram huh? And the quality is excellent! I had bought a liteon 166 drive to replace my 120s but found the pioneer drive to work better. The 166 has what I think is a nasty habit of lessening the read speed once it hits a high rip point, that the pioneer doesnt. Now with this version of Shrink my 120s works flawlessly with all the software available. One other thing, I dont know why but this version of Shrink increased the read speed almost 3 fold, amazing. Well all I can say is Thanks!

Damn I wish this happened a week ago as I just bought a Lite-On so I could use DVD Shrink. Anyone want to buy a slightly used Pioneer 120 DVDROM?
(Before anyone jumps me for trying to sell something here, it was just a joke). -
While 3.0b5 always worked fine for me, the new version (both 3.1.5 and 3.1.6b1) crashes suddenly with an "exception error...";
I'm trying to burn the disc image to the HD,so I think it's no DVD writer issue...I have room on both HD's;
The source higher-than-4.7GB DVD has been authored in DVDitPE; it has many movies but I've realized the this program merges all into just one VTS....maybe it has something to do ?
Does anyone know how to report possible bugs to Shrink Author ?
Thanks,
Zetti -
Does anyone know how to report possible bugs to Shrink Author ?
We'll need more details though. Does it only happen with DVDitPE authored discs being an important one. -

Well, it's been some weeks or so since I don't use Shrink, now that I needed it, I instaled 3.1.5 and deleted 3.0b5 - that always worked wonderfully, that's why I got surprised, I expected no problems;
What is more interesting is that Nero Recode latest version did the job just fine, and as far as I've heard the author of both programs is the same person;
I'll try to quickly author a BIG DVD in Maestro and make a test, yesterday I tried Shrink several times, with errors and crashes in all times;
I'll return to this post later,
Thanks,

Guys, I don't want to sound alarmist, but I would advise you not to use v3.1.6 right now, and to stick to v3.1.5 Final.
I think I might have discovered a nasty bug, but I'll know more about it after I've had a chat with dvdshrink, as it might only be related to my particular setup. -
More info about the bug can be found here.

What exactly is the Pioneer 120 bug? I just shrunk the movie An Italian Job and I can not play the movie on my Pioneer 563A standalone player. The player keeps trying to boot up the movie over and over. I thought it was the media(Optodisc) but I switched to Ritek but still doing the same exact thing with a new burn. I was using shrink3.1.5 and let it shrink directly from the DVD drive to the hard drive. Will I be able to fix the already shrunk movie from the HD with say DVD2ONE and reburn the movie? Thanks.

The Pioneer 120S is a DVD-ROM.
The "120 bug" usually happens at the layer-break when ripping.
DVD Shrink (and CloneDVD too I think) simply stops and give an error message.
dvdshrink - the developer - purchased a 120S to do some testing and try and fix this bug.
Apparently he was able to do so, but I have the feeling this introduced a new bug.
This still has to be confirmed though. -
Oh, only during layer break? Hm, it may be a different problem. But they both are Pioneer brand. I was able to play the newly burned DVD in a DVD-ROM, which made me think it was the same problem as the DVD 120.
Anyone encounter the same problem that I am having?
Try it:
1) Open Shrink while the DVD movie is in the ROM
2) Backup directly from ROM to HD.
I usually use DVDecrypter to to the ripping part. This was the first time I let Shrink do the ripping/backup at the same time. It had been so reliable with previous version until 3.1.5. -
nooner6, I also have a Pioneer set-top, the fairly old DV626D, and have only encountered problems when using v3.1.6b.

The Pioneer 563A is relatively new. It's one of these hybrid DVD player that plays both DVD-A & SACD. I also support WMA but I have not tried it yet. There must be something that Pioneer doing that's different than other DVD. I play the problem disc on my PC and the movie played fine. I am going to try and put the problem DVD in and let DVDecrypter rip it and run it through DVD2ONE and see if that fixes the problem, whatever the problem is
-
I just took the problematic DVD disc to my computer and try to let DVDecrypter to rip it. DVDecrypter came back with an error message:
Failed to patch file!
C:\ITALIAN_JOB\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.BUP
Reason: Invalid IFO /BUP.
Shrink 3.1.5 must've done something not right.
Anyone knows how can I correct this? Can it be fixed or it needs to re-process? -
nooner6, I can only suggest try again with DVD Shrink.
Something might have messed up your first attempt. -
Unfortunately, I don't have the original movie with me at the moment. I let it to my sister who lives about 3 hrs away. That was my newly bought movie that I want to back up. I already wasted 2 disc and I don't think I want to let shrink do the backup directly from the DVD-ROM again.

Hello again.
v3.1.6b4 seems to have fixed the bug I was experiencing.
I say "seems" because I had to use DVD-RW as I'd run out of DVD-R.
I didn't believe the problem was due to media in the first place though, so I can recommend using v3.1.6b4.
