  1. Ok, It's probably basic -But I'm worn out after a complete OS Redo, post installation of MyDVD. Used PowerDVD to view the movie.

Decrypter has done it's job, very well -Backed up a movie I had lying around to test -WaterWorld in 19 mintues. But there is no way, it seems to use this to write back to the DVD blank.

Just want to see if this 811S will actually burn a DVD or not -So advice? NERO won't work on this drive, is there a trial of something good or freeware that I can test this with. Or should Decrypter handle a burn as well -That's how the comments read?

    Maybe something that will do both CD's & DVD's {Not NERO, won't work}
This is a great site, lots of info and help -Just forgive a totally worn out 'fix-it' thing over the last two days....Long hours..Lol

    Thanks in advance
-Finally getting something to happen, won't go into the ASPI thing right now -fixed.

Have you encoded it yet? That's your next step.

    I personally like DVD Shrink.

    Good luck!

  4. Should not have tempted fate tonight! Everyone knows how it is with something new though, right!

    DVDdecrpter {File mode}
    DVDshrink
    & Then DVDToCopy

File listed in shrink as 3.7g
    DVDToCopy states to large=4.6g

What did I do wrong?? Guru's out there in the DVD world.....

DVD Decrypter can only burn to a DVD disc from an ISO IMAGE FILE. If you have a single layer disc you simply RIP it in ISO mode then burn it in ISO mode.

When you have a dual layer disc you need to rip it in FILE mode then process it SOMEHOW to make it fit a single DVD disc. This is where you use something like DVD2ONE or DVDShrink etc.

Now those programs (often called transcoders) will spit out a VIDEO_TS DIR of DVD files.

How to burn that with DVD Decrypter?

    Simple

Use the CLASSIC VERSION of ImgTools (which is freeware) to create an ISO IMAGE FILE from the VIDEO_TS DIR

Now burn it with DVD Decrypter.

You simply can't go wrong with that combo of ImgTools Classic Version and DVD Decrypter. Will make a compliant DVD everytime

  6. Thank you very much, I have downloaded the file, but I'll really mess up if I carry on tonight. I did notice though, that 1.00.6 had this with it; I'm supposing that's if Nero is used & won't be an influence without it (english only version / Nero 5.5.9.14 - 5.5.x.x)

I kept reading, not to use the ISO in Decrypter; but if I'm reading this correctly and I'm supposing this media is single layer {But does not state that}? The test media is Verbatim DVD-R "Digital Movie" 4X (Taiwan). -I'll just follow your instruction for single layer unless I hear back, tomorrow.....

At least I know the 811S can read & Play DVD, that's a start Now with your advice I should have a burn tomorrow and Kudo's to you

    Thanks, again

There are at least 2 different versions of ImgTools and I always use the CLASSIC VERSION because it works very well and all by itself. There is another version of ImgTools that will ONLY work if you have a version of NERO installed. NERO is fine for anything related to CD burning but it has major issues with DVD burning so stay far away from it as much as you can. So again make sure you are using the CLASSIC VERSION of ImgTools.

At this point all DVD recordable discs are single layer. There are some that can be burned to BOTH sides but even then both sides are single layer. Dual layer DVD recordables will be out sometime later in 2004 (or so they say).

Now "pressed" commercial DVD discs can be single layer or dual layer per side. Put the DVD in question in your DVD drive and start up DVD Decrypter and put it in ISO MODE ---> READ

On the right hand side there is a window that has ALL sorts of information about the disc.

It will look something like this:

    Code:
    Device Information:
    Current Profile: DVD-ROM

    Disc Information:
    Status: Unknown
    Erasable: Unknown
    Formatted: Unknown
    Sessions: Unknown
    Sectors: 3,787,520
    Size: 7,756,840,960 bytes
    Time: 841:42:20 (MM:SS:FF)

    Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
    Book Type: DVD-ROM
    Part Version: 1
    Disc Size: 120mm
    Maximum Read Rate: 10.08Mbps
    Number of Layers: 2
Track Path: Opposite Track Path (OTP)
    Linear Density: 0.293 um/bit
    Track Density: 0.74 um/track
The only thing you are really interesed in is the NUMBER OF LAYERS

If it say 1 then it is single layer if it says 2 (as in my example) then it is dual layer.

If it is 1 (single layer) then RIP it in ISO READ MODE then burn it using ISO WRITE MODE

    It's that simple

Of course if it is 2 (dual layer) then you should rip it in FILE MODE (SELECT ALL FILES) and then further process it as I described in my first post in this thread.

I have both Nero and DVD Decrypter (nero cam with my drive, but i think Decrypter is free - cant remember)

Nero is superb for music and data.

But DVD Decrypter is MUCH easier to use, and much better with DVD's

  9. AWESOME, is all that comes to mind

Ok, without kingkill33 and especially FulciLives -I would be burning myself out of a hole! Kudo's....

Here is what I did (I'm awake); Backup of WaterWorld.
NOTE: the source DVD was 2 layer, the DVD-R was single layer.

    1) DVDShrink
Then immediately used Shrink to Backup (Must do)

    2) CopyToDVD
    -Selected the Video_TS.ifo file

    That was it, scary..LOl

    #1 Took 1.5 minutes
    #2 Took 3 minutes

    - Write the DVD, took 14 minutes =Total time was 18.5 minutes

Played it back in the 'Beast' (If XBOX can read it....It's a done deal) Perfect backup!!!!!!!!

    Got two questions:

    1) Wonder if I can do this with the XBOX games my Son has a habit of turning into coasters, not very careful and they get ruined easily; should I use DVD-R or +R?

    2) Where can I get, or what should I use for a CD burner, on this lightening fast 811S?

Course this rig is pretty dang quick anyway.

Didn't want to get into the ASPI thing earlier, lost WIN2K Pro kernal/corruption due to MyDVD....3rd party ASPI hook, that does not use WIN code.- But go to the source and update this file before using either WIN2K Pro OR WINxp for burning-http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?sess=no&language=English+US...aspi_471a2.exe Be very careful this is not exactely a novice activity to actually get it running.

Thanks, Fella's now...If you could help me out on the 'Two' questions, Game-Set & Match!

Need help with PC Hardware, happy to

    Cheers
