hello. I have a DVD created that has a menu and a bunch of short films on it. when I play my DVD-R in my DVD player, I select "play whole movie" or select an individual chapter the dvd player will skip thru all chapters and only play the last one (which are credits). you can see it going 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc and then stopping on 11 (the last one).
I'm guessing there is something wrong with the linking from the menu to the chapter points/movie files?
what i'd like to do, if i'm on the right path, is to rebuild the DVD keeping the vob files exactly as they are (no re-encoding) and rebuild the ifo files. does this sound like it would correct my issue? how would one do that?
i've searched the forums for re-building DVDs, ifo, etc but nothing came back that seemed to fit what i was looking to do.
I am tempted to run it thru DVD2One or something, but don't think that would change the ifo files, just shrink the movies and size is not the issue.
maybe i'm off base and it is actually a different problem? very lost at this point. don't have original mpegs, only vob files (which all play fine individually)
thanks for any help and if you need any furthur info from me about this just ask. marc

Rip or copy (depending on if there is encryption or not) all the DVD files to your HD. Open in InfoEdit, and select "Make IFO's". Save it to the same directory to overwrite the existing IFo's, close & reopen IfoEdit. Load the new Ifo's and select "Get VTS Vectors". Again save to the same directory. Burn the new DVD and enjoy.

thank you for the reply. that got me closer, but I lost the menu somehow. I can step thru the chapters by hitting next, but the menu does not play when the disc is run. this is the directory structure of the dvd...
VIDEO_TS.BUP 6,144
VIDEO_TS.IFO 6,144
VIDEO_TS.VOB 145,408 (??)
VTS_01_0.BUP 67,584
VTS_01_0.IFO 67,584
VTS_01_0.VOB 315,949,056 (menu)
VTS_01_1.VOB 1,073,702,912 (next 5 are the movies)
VTS_01_2.VOB 1,073,680,384
VTS_01_3.VOB 1,073,235,968
VTS_01_4.VOB 1,073,555,456
VTS_01_5.VOB 29,317,120
VTS_02_0.BUP 40,960
VTS_02_0.IFO 40,960
VTS_02_1.VOB 217,088 (??)
Here is what I did...
* copied all files to drive (changed prop to remove read-only attr.)
* using IfoEdit v0.95, ran Create IFOs (saving to same directory)
* opened VIDEO_TS.VOB
* IfoEdit said "Could not find any VOB unit in VOB file(s)"
* opened VTS_01_0.VOB
* processed VOB files 01_1 thru 01_05
* quit IfoEdit and restarted, opened all IFOs (video_ts, vts_01_0,vts_02_0)
* ran Get VTS
* IfoEdit said "menu-VOB file was found, but there are no menu-tables in this IFO file". delete file VIDEO_TS.VOB and redo Get VTS.
** tried it both ways, not removing the file and removing it.
* said the same thing for VTS_01_0.VOB, did NOT delete this one though
everything I tried basically ended up the same for me, have all chapters available to step thru, but the menu is does not show up for me to choose from??
sorry for the long post, but I was hoping the detail could help you help me.
thank you for any assistance, marc -
The problem could be the time pointers in the VOBs themselves.
- Copy the complete structure to the HD
Open VIDEO_TS.IFO in IfoEdit and "get VTS Sectors"
Hit "Menu Extras" and on the LEFT check only "Correct Vob Unit-----" and "Correct original IFO----"
Leave the right side as is.
Hit OK and a processing dialog opens, DRAG IT DOWN UNDER THE TASK BAR to increase the processing speed by at least 3 X !!
Now do the same to VTS_01_0.IFO
When thats done you hit "VOB Extras" and do the same there.
Thats all - its basically re-writing the VOBs in place and fixes all sorts of trouble including time search etc.
It MAY just fix your problem too....
maa - Copy the complete structure to the HD
