i have a creative pc dvd 1241e and playing through power dvd,certain dvd disc`s and audio cd`s,it just spits them out or say`s that they are scratched,but can`t be as they are brand new dvd`s?could it be the firmware?if so where would i get it and is it easy to install

Has this drive done this since you got it or did it only start recently? If recently, try to think of what on your system changed around the time it happened. Also, if this is an older drive or it operates in a dirty environment, you might think about cleaning the laser lens in the drive using a cleaning kit you can buy pretty much anywhere.
Don't mess with the firmware unless you have to. -
it still does it on some film`s i have some that are battered and it reads them fine,i have some that are just out of the wrapper and it won`t have them.i also have a few gigs on dvdr and some it plays and some it does`nt ,my xbox plays them fine?

Has this drive always done this? Have you tried cleaning the laser lens if not?
If it has always done this, I would suspect a defective drive, you need to exchange it.
If you can, try installing another DVD drive in the same slot as the current one. Maybe you could borrow one from a friend if you don't have another. If a different drive works fine, I would say that proves the drive is either defective or incompatible.
