I installed a new seagate 200 GB, 7200/8 mb drive as a slave. Set BIOS to recognize it. Set primary and secondary IDE drives 0 and 1 all to ultra DMA mode 2. Pinnacle studio 8 will let me capture to my bootable master drive but when I switch to the new drive it says unable to transfer, rate is less than 4444 Kbytes/sec. Both drives are on the same cable but the cable is the standard (all black) that came with my Dell Dimension 2400. It is not the ultra ata100 cable which is blue, grey and black. Do I need to replace the cable or is there something else I am missing?

The drive itself should be more than fast enough. I've heard of problems with 40-pin cables and ATA-66 and faster drives. If you have a DMA option in your BIOS for AUTO, set your drive to it. Also, in Device Manager, make sure both drives on both channels are set to 'DMA if availabe' under 'IDE controllers.' The cable is more than likely the bulk of your problem.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
