Except for the first time I used Dvd Shrink I am been having problems with it. I have spent many hours reading all the guides, and reviewing the posts in this forum as well as others. This is how it began, first I attempted to use the version with the shell by NY Player, that comes up with a runtime error. Then attempted to use the two most recent versions of Shrink and get a window popping up during the later stages of the rip saying DVD shrink has encountered a programming error and will now close, so it wont finish the rip and closes. Then an explorer type window pops up and offers to send a report of the error to Microsoft, what gives?? I have used Dvd decrypter sucessfully as well as IMg Tool, dvd fab and they all work fine. I really dont understand this, I am using the same media, memorex 4x dvd+r. My dvd rom is up to date in firmware, its a pioneer dvd 120s, 16x, as is my plextor 708A. I have 512 megs of ram, and a 1 gig processor. I have a need to use shrink from time to time and would like to be able to take advantage of its features. Any help will be greatly appreciated.[/b]

I find DVD Shrink to be erratic on compressing from the DVD. It's much better to rip with DVD Decrypter and then compress from a directory on your HD. 3.0beta5 was the last stable version. 3.1 is has numerous bugs and should be avoided.

  5. Mr. Bass I get a runtime error 76 program path not found when I attempt to use autoshrink. Any advice? Thanks in advance. All my paths are set to where autoshrink, dvd encryptor and mkisofs are located.

  6. I tried shrink 3.0 beta 5 same problem . Program aborts says it encounters an error and must close.

  7. I had problems with DVD Shrink also. I was told that the Pioneer DVDROM could be the culprit. After trying other programs of which none were as good as DVD Shrink, I went to WalMart and bought a Lite-On DVD ROM yesterday. I stuck my store bought version of The Klumps and BOOM, no more error messages. I think it was drlooping who put me on to this.

  9. Hi all.

It is very likely the Pioneer 120 is responsible for these problems.

    Suggestions:

    - Use DVD Decrypter to rip all the files first, and then use DVD Shrink "Open Files".
    - Use your DVD writer in conjunction with DVD Shrink.
    - Change your DVD-ROM.
    - Use another "backup" software.

  11. If it is the dvd rom drive that is causing the problems what dvd rom drive do you recommend to compliment my plextor 708a . I would like a fast dvd read speed drive, atapi ultra dma.

Well ... maybe you will be successful if you rip to the hard drive first.

Use DVD Decrypter to rip to hard drive first

or ... Smart Ripper 2.41 I use it most of the time ... when I have to rip to the harddrive.

It would be helpful if you included some details about your computer.

I've read somewhere a DVD Burner will read slower than a plain simple reader.

I use a Toshiba SD-M1712 DVD-ROM for reading DVD-Ram disks. About $30 bucks on the Internet ... I got mine on Ebay ... I almost didn't get it.

The postal service mail man ... GEEZ ... he stuck the package in my neighbor's mail box instead. My mail box is #1129 and he stuck it in #1229. My neighbor Brenda ... knocked on my door about 11 PM ... and asked me if this was mine. I use it to read DVD-RAM disks made with my Panasonic DMR-E50S DVD Recorder.

Well, not being very experienced with different programs but I can tell you that Shrink 3.5 Beta is a gem to use I have not had a coaster and I have backed up quite a lot.

Im burning with Clone DVD, the only time Ive encountered any problem is when the Hard drive needs defraging.

I dont have much computer knowledge, but I do know that there can be many possibilities why a program is not working correctly.

  14. Know a guy who's an absolute genius with Shrink. Not sure which version he's on, but the reading equipment is LITE-ON. I've been bagging them out everywhere on account of what I've suffered at the hands of the LDW-411S, but their DVD-ROMs are, and always were, top notch. In fact the shrink-mage uses an LDW-411S, which ultimately became usable after the 3rd (!!!!) firmware revision (FS0F). Most everyone else I know uses LITE-ON DVD-ROM in collusion with Pioneer DVR-105/6/7 etc. A good way to go as some media (e.g. RiData) is apparently monolingual, i.e. only wants to be read out of what wrote it, so between them the 2 drives can handle just about anything.

Just on RiData, don't want to go too far off topic, but has anyone noticed a problem with the audio stream losing sync with this media? Saw it happen on a cheapie (Enlight) DVD Player (the RiData disks are the pink/grey face, not the whites).
You may well call this an upside-down society, since you occupy its lowest level, and deservedly so .......

You say you've haven't had a coaster from using DVDShrink.

Are you burning DVDs after using DVDShrink and hoping everything went well ??

Get Cyberlink PowerDVD 5 ... and you can open a VIDEO_TS folder with PowerDVD ... it will play just like as if you had a DVD Movie in your DVD Drive. Very cool to have this feature.

At least you will know it was made right ... then if you get a coaster ... you can concentrate on the burning software ... as a place to look first.

But there are posts scattered all over this forum of stories where it did play okay on there computer but not on there tabletop DVD player.

  16. I'm just curious...

I've been using DVD Shrink v3.1.4 for the past couple of weeks and have backed up (complete and reauthored) about 10 DVD's so far. I haven't had any problems with Shrink and am wondering -- what ARE the 'bugs' in this software? What problems should we be watching for? Are these "bugs" really identified as DVD Shrink-related? Or are they possible problems associated with particular burners, inferior DVD's, or other computer software conflicts? Have the authors of DVD Shrink recognized/anounced definite problems with this latest version?

  17. Well the pioneer 120s is history. Picked up a lite on JLMS XJ-HD166s 16xdvd rom drive .So far no errors but read speed on rip is slower than the pioneer which was also a 16 x, it would rip at 8x, and the liteon averages 6x suggestions? with dvd decrytor I get about 7x, dvd shrink newest version maybe 3x.

  18. Oh and by the way, I REALLY want to thank everyone for there suggestions and help. It is greatly appreciated.

  19. Glad to be of help.

By the way, have you tried ripping with DVD Shrink, using no compression and keeping all the streams?
I'd just be curious to see if its speed then increase to something comparable to DVD Decrypter.
In theory it should as no real processing would take place.
