Instead of ripping everything from a DVD, is there a way to just rip the audio??
i.e. I don't want to waste too much spaces storing the video.
Re-encoding into VCD format is also undesirable,
because I want the audio to stay at its original quality.
What tool would you recommend??
Thanks

I would use DVD2AVI...
You might be required to create a small .d2v file, but within the AUDIO section, you have a chance to rip all the streams that exist.....
Apparantly, DVDDecrypter will rip the .AC3, but i'm not familiar with that method...I assume that you could rip the elementary streams, but leave the video option unchecked....

Try this link, for what you are looking for :
http://www.dvdtox.com/dvdaudioripper.htm
Also, to do it for free, which does involve ripping the DVD. I assume you want to avoid this, due to space, rip as normal using DVDDecrypter, then use AC3Tool
It can be done with DVDDecrypter, without ripping the enitire DVD, but I've only done it once or twice, you need to rip just the audio stream, I think its under 'Stream Processing'. The docs with DVDDecrypter are not the most user friendly, but have a look on here in the guides, somebody may have done it already
Then use AC3Tool to convert the AC3 to either MP3 or WAV, with the option of downmixing the 5.1 audio to 2-channel stereo, if required
