Guys --
Here's one for ya -- I don't have a clue.
I've used a home budget program called HBMS for over 10 years to keep track of my bills, etc. Its a no frills good solid basic little program. But, I've just upgraded to a new computer, running W2K Pro, ATI Radeon AIW 9600 Pro, and a 17" Samsung SyncMaster 753df monitor, and I can't get this old program to display on the full screen. It will only display on less than half of the screen.
You can't "install" this old bomber, so I have a short cut to the .exe file, and I have adjusted all of the settings under the icon properties. I still can't get the program do display full size.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

It sounds like you are now running in a higher resolution and the program is hardcoded to be a certian size (probably 640x480).
If so, you could try this...
Right-click the shortcut
choose properties
go to the compatibility tab
check run in 640x480 mode
However, this may mess up things if you switch between programs."A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

Thanks for the response.
I did not understand your following suggestion about the compatability tab:
go to the compatibility tab check run in 640x480 mode
If you come up with any other ideas, I welcome them.
Thanks again.Jim G -
Oops, for some reason I thought you had WinXP. I just looked at your stats and you are running Win2K. It only works in XP.
I don't have any other ideas, sorry."A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

its most likely a msdos program if you've been using it for 10 years. try making a shortcut to it, then right click the shortcut and select maximize.

Thanks for the advice. Tried that. Tried all the possible combos on the shortcut. No go. Any other thoughts?

As regards upgrading, this 10+ year old program, written by some share ware "hack," is better than anything else out there. I'm presently working on Quicken 99 -- I had a free copy, and many reviewers are very critical of the the 2003 and 2004 versions -- and my old share-ware is much more simple and elegant.
In short, I'd like to keep using the old work horse if possible.Jim G -
As far as compatibility.
Right click the program icon.
select properties
select compatibility tab
check of "run in 640x480 screen resolution"
also "make it run in windows 95"
or run the compatibility wizard Located under Accesories
You could try to find an emulator. Like for old arcade games or something. Or build an old computer and put DOS 3.0 on it. You can probably buy one online for less than $50. -
Thanks for your response. However, I have problems with the following:
Right click the program icon.
select properties
select compatibility tab
check of "run in 640x480 screen resolution"
also "make it run in windows 95"
or run the compatibility wizard Located under Accesories
At any rate, I am still open to, and thank you for, any ideas that will help me run this older program.
Thanks again for your help.Jim G
