  2. I f you have no intention of ever watching TV on your computer I would stay away from TV tuner/capture cards and go with a straight analog capture device (they usually have more bandwidth). There are a number of them and I am only familiar with one (lower priced one). I have the Pinnacle DC10+ and it cost less than 50 US dollars. They go up in price from there, but I'm happy with it. Currently I don't even use that card anymore to capture analog. My digital camcorder has an option called analog pass through. You can connect the analog device (VCR, camcorder, DVD player, etc.) into the jacks on the digital camcorder and the digital camcorder plugs into the firewire port of the PC. If you have a digital camcorder or can borrow one from a friend that might be the best solution (providing it has analog pass through).

What is the source of the video you wish to edit? Is it from VHS? I couldn't tell from your original post. If it is a VHS or analog source, then you will need a capture card with analog input. These can either be internal PCI cards or external via USB.

    Internal Capture Card

    External Capture Card

    Good Luck,

Why do you have to record it to VHS before you can capture it? If you can output it to a VCR, shouldn't you be able to output it directly to the capture device?

i dont think i can output it directly to the capture device im not sure but now i think me and my mates are gonna use mini DVD camcorders instead so we can load it using firewire.
