  1. Hi,

I'm thinking about purchasing a flatbed scanner to scan photos for video slide shows. What types of specs do I need to consider? For example, where does DPI fit into viewing photos on a TV (whether it be a 32 inch or projected onto a huge screen)? How will a 2400x4800 DPI scanner limit me? What other specs should I consider?

I plan to scan mostly 3x5 and 4x6 color photos.

    Thanks,
    Tommy

2400 x 4800 will limit your time and disk space.
The whole video screen is 720 x 480 or less. Think about it

  3. Unless you intend on doing some serious digital photo editing, then probably the cheapest scanner you can find would work just fine for DVD slideshows.

Ok, I think that makes sense. Are lines the same as DPI? That is, since my video screen is 720x480, then do I want to scan at 720x480 DPI?

Say your picture is 4 in high - then you want 120 per inch to get 480
However I think I'd go higher because it will get resized -
    and oversampling helps there
    try 300 x 300
