  1. Using any available DVD authoring program or utility, is it easily possible to do this?

Take a DVD and decrypt it. Use DVD-Lab or whatever authoring program there is to demux the very fat uncompressed LPCM audio. The compress it to MP2 or AC3, then remux back into the VOB files without hurting the structure?

This is for an NTSC DVD.

Does anyone know how to do it?

Valnar, I have bad news. Unless someone else has some great secret it cannot be done. Likely you'll have to reauthor the disc after compressing the LPCM audio yourself.
