  1. I want to backup Gone With the Wind. It a single DVD but Movie has Part 1 on one side and Part 2 on the other. Is there a way to burn this to a single DVD or is it better just to make 1 DVD for each side? I am using Shrink DVD and Nero.

    Thanks

Wether you incorporate it on one disk or two is your call, but personally I wouldn't recommend it.
If you click here and search Shrink (yes, you have the best programme for this in my opinion) you'll find guides on either combining both on one DVD or maintaining some level of quality and creating two DVD's.

    233 minutes?

I would strongly suggest 2 DVD's for this one...

I backed up GWTW on one DVD-R,used DVD2ONE's join option and used only the mono audio track. Video quality about equal to SVCD,certainly not DVD quality. For casual viewing and one disk convenience it's O.K.

Gone With the Wind and Dances with Wolves Directors Cut are both true DVD18's.

That's basically 4 DVD's worth of info. You can't back that up to a single DVDR via transcoding (and don't tell me to Shrink it twice). You need to Re-Encode it to 1/2 D1 as the only way.

I did wolves as 2 DVDR's, it was a lot faster than re-encoding (assuming you can re-encode the 2 seperate pieces without hiccups at the disk flip). It was worth keeping the extra's, some pretty good bits in there.

Gone with the wind is an extremely long film, but is also quite old, so tell me if i'm going down the wrong track here but I would have thought the original source wouldn't be the best picture you ever saw anyway,
ok, they've remastered it and such bollocks but surely putting it onto one disc wouldn't make that much difference to a source picture that wasn't perfect to start with.
    Or am I talking crap!

Hey, there's no rule that says you can't take 223 minutes of old source material and encode it at an VBR of 8000!

Limitations of the source material? Bollocks!

One disc? Two disc? Frankly I don't give a damn.

I backed up both sides using 4,350 mb setting in shrink and watched it, its fine 90% of the time, if you slow-mo it or zoom in you can really see a difference but for general viewing purposes on my TV, wasn't bad at all

My apologies, I thought it was a DVD18.

4 hours is simply too long to put on a single DVDR. It just can't be done as a full D1 resolution. That's an average bitrate of 2400 which makes a good svcd but horrible DVD. It, however, is an acceptable 1/2 D1 or CVD bitrate, especially if it's VBR.

2 disk backup would be very simple to do.
