Why are you using virtualdub? Tmpgenc will convert the avi to mpeg-2 with sound, all at once.
What codec (package) are you using?
What does GSpot report about the avi?Cheers, Jim

i use vituraldub because thats
what some of the avi2mpg2 articles say
i am using a codec pack -
First, just use TMPGEnc to do the video. Select a template, in this case SVCD(NTSC).
Check the settings.
I suggest CQ_VBR about 85. Min bitrate 200, max 2500.
On the Advanced tab, select the correct aspect ratio for your avi.
Make sure the Audio is set to 44100.
Encode it.
Try and play it.
Your problems stem from conflicting codecs I would think. If you're using the Nimo pack, uninstall it. Do a search for Kristal codec pack, and install that instead. It's got everything you need.
The Nimo pack and the "official" DivX pack/player are probably not compatible.Cheers, Jim
