  1. I reported in an earlier post that I was having problems backing up a DVD using DVDShrink 3.1. I've encountered a 2nd DVD with exactly the same problem and it's another Columbia Pictures DVD.

In short what happens is that if you select the movie from the menu the FBI warning screens are displayed and then you get a screen that's a sort of studio disclaimer about opinions in the movie not necessarily being those of the studio. The movie then loops replaying that last disclaimer over and over. Someone said you can play select chapter 1 to get around this. My solution is to just record the movie. That way you don't have to sit through any previews at the beginning either. Of course you experts can probably figure out something more elegant that's beyond most of us. Just be aware that it appears only Columbia Pictures DVDs have this problem.....so far.

  2. Yes, I've run into the exact same problem on almost every Columbia Tristar DVD.. IC and Shrink both do not work.

I haven't experimented but I think it's b/c 'we' are stripping the French subtitles --> which I think are linked to the French disclaimer that comes on just after the English disclaimer. The player gets 'stuck' b/c it is not finding the French text/subs.. Again, that's just a guess..

Try keeping the French subs and see what happens.. My solution is to do full disk with DVD2One and no problems (full disc mode does not allow option to strip subs--don't think, atleast..).

If anyone knows why this happens, please advise.. Thanks.

  3. You might be right because on the original dvd there is always an english and french disclaimer and the back up never makes it to the french one. I'll try doing one leaving first the french subtitles (which I think I already tried by the way) and see what happens. If that doesn't work then I just leave in all the french related things one by one and try to isolate the cause if I can.

  4. You are exactly right about those French submenus...do not remove them, at least from a Columbia Pictures move. I just did some experimenting and the french submenu removal is what causes the looping....thanks for solving the mystery.

  5. Thanks for confirming and writing back! Now I'll know to keep French subs on Col-Tri DVD's, as well..
