I don't remember when I started experiencing this problem, but I recently upgraded my system (actually built a new one and transferred only Optorite DD0203 burner), installed DVD Decryptor 3.1.9 (was using older version on older computer), and while trying to rip a DVD I had the following:
DVD Decryptor slows down while ripping at certain point, read speed goes down to 0.1X, and it may stop reading the DVD completely, or after showing 30+ tries continues and speeds up to normal 4.4X or higher. If ripping continues, Decryptor finishes with that "happy" sound showing that no errors were found. However, when I open the files with DVD Shrink, the program displays an error of reading one of the files (most likely where Decryptor slowed down). I will get the same error in Nero Recode when it tries to read the files.
Thinking that there might be something wrong with DVD, I clean it with soft cloth and cleaning liquid, and rip again. Decryptor rips it fine, but than I get another error in DVD Shrink or Nero Recode, and the reading error occurs at different file. When I continue going through the same procedure over and over, I may finally get positive results with same DVD when DVD Shrink and Nero Recode successfully analyze the files and are ready to shrink and burn.
One thing I noticed is that the error occurs in both Nero and DVD Shrink when video in preview window becomes kind of corrupted: picture splits to normal in lower half and to "out of sync" in upper half of the screen.
I am confused because I cannot identify the cause: new version of DVD Decryptor, something that is caused by different component(s) of the new computer, DVD burner that I use to rip DVD's starts having problems, or simply the DVD disk itself? If the problem occurs while ripping the original DVD, no matter what the problem is caused by, why DVD Decryptor creates corrupted files but reports that ripping finished successfully?

try an older version of Decryptor first and see how that works.

Thanks Poppa_Meth. Do you know where I can find older versions of DVD Decryptor?

I have 3160, 3170, 3180, 3190.
I can send it to you (PM with your email address) -
Your disk is damaged. DVDDecryptor tries real hard to read errors. DVDShrink/ReCode (really the same thing) tries a few times and give up. This is 'normal' operation.
For badly damaged disks, try the 'toothpaste' cleaning method, then rip with DVDDecryptor. Open the rip in DVDShrink and shrink it from there. That's the method I use on disks the kids have nearly ruined. Works nearly every time. On the disks that are just too badly damaged, have DVDDecryptor ignore the error. You will get a hiccup in your backup but it's better than not having one at all.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
Yes, I agree that this can be due to a damaged disk. What is a "toothpaste" method anyways? Do I just clean the disk using regular toothpaste, and if so, which one works the best (Colgate, Crest, Aquafresh)?
I have seen some DVD/CD repair kits in Costco that look like hair dryer. Are they any good? I purchased a CD cleaning kit from Office Max (free after rebate) about a month ago - a real crap. You have to clean the CD with something else after cleaning with that stuff. -
its not always a bad disc though. there have been some issues with DVD Decryptor 3.1.9 so trying an old version may solve the problem. I had a disc that was having very similar problems. ended up being the DVD-ROM data on the disc trying to make my computer play it while it ripped. I ripped in file mode though instead of ISO and no problems after that.
