I'm trying to get AVI's to work in TMPGnc or VDub. I get different errors in both apps. I think I have the codex's and i've even installed the binaries just incase.. but still I'm unable to open them.

Firstly can someone clarify the diff between TMPGnc and Vdub. As they seem to both work and not work on the same files.

The clips I'm working on play very well on the pc and are clear and sharp.

opening the clip in TMPGnc I get an error that reads..

"Cannot open or unsupported" yea, ok, but why?

I'll put out the GSpot info first and see if I can get the error screen shots as well

    this is the VDubb error

Get the 4cc changer and change the headers to divx/divx. the header div3 doesn't have a registered codec on your sustem. Other people will tell you to install the DivX3 codec, but it breaks a lot of things in doing so (it needs to be the first thing you install).

ok, bobby sox seems like you have no updated divx codec.
i just had the same problem with vdub.
    SET UP THE DIVX5.1Pro codec.

believe me, your troubles just WILL START at this moment.

Thanks Andy, So I need yet another codec? DIVX5.1 Pro

Is this yet another geeky thing that will take me a life time to understand and run or can I just point and click.

If this is another wild goose chase I'd rather not bother.

So where do I get this codec?
    thanks.

Well I went to the link posted here. Ran the installer for the software as suggested and then attempted to open the rouge file in TMPGnc and it worked.

I'm now running the app in the background as I type this message.
