  1. Hello,

How do I burn a 786 meg BIN file onto a CD-RW with a capacity of 702.83 megs? Is there any way to reduce the size of the BIN file by about 10% to fit it on the disc?

    Thanks for any help,

    Carl

  2. If its an SVCD you need to burn it as such.
Do you have the .cue file as well?
SVCDs and many other .bin images tend to go over 700 megs, but will burn to fit 700 usually. (use nero if you have the cue file, just go to burn image and select it) If its over 700 itll warn you before burning.
If you dont have the .cue file use discjuggler to burn the .bin (select burn image then "all files" under type) or do a google search for "cue file maker"
If its anything over 700 when burning, youll be warned usually.

  3. If you are trying to burn the bin file as data, then it will not fit. If you are burning the bin file as an SVCD or a VCD, then it will provided you have the cue file as the previous poster said.

A 700 meg CDR has an actual capacity of 800 megs. The extra hundred megs is for error correction. You can utilize this extra space when burning SVCD or VCDs, but not with data. As long as the bin file is under 80 minutes, you should be fine. That is, if you are burning an SVCD or a VCD.

*Always keep in mind to leave a little space before reaching the 80 minute capacity (when encoding SVCDs or VCDs) because authoring an SVCD or a VCD with an app such as VCDEasy will add a little extra overhead (authoring material/information). Otherwise, you always end up with a bin/cue file that has to be overburned or will not fit at all on a 700 meg CDR. (I usually make my VCD files around 774 megs when encoding with TMPGEnc. I always leave room for authoring app material. To encode a file to 99% of a CDR's capacity seems so dumb to me because the final "ready to burn" project will more than likely exceed the capacity of the CDR. Anyways...)

*Another alternative is to extract the mpeg with VCDGear. That way, you can use VCDEasy 1.1.5.2 (the last freeware version which works beautifully) to reauthor the mpeg.

An 80 minute/700 MB CD has the capacity of 800 MB when burned as an S/VCD because of the lack of error correction in mode 2 burning. 700 MB is the capacity for data which needs to have the error checking. 80 minutes is the capacity if it's used as an audio CD.

I can squeeze 120 minutes in an 800 MB XVCD by lowering the average bitrate and using VBR. MB is all that matters.

A bin file can be up to 806 mb without overburn on a 80 minute cdr,its safe to have a mpg file at 795 mb with authoring taking up another 10mb,cdr`s have lots of headroom anyways so its no problem burning,i even overburn 10 mbs with no ill effects.
