A regular DVD holds 4.7 GB so you should be fine anyway. If you really really want to decrease the filesize, decreasing the video bitrate is the easiest way. But since you have plenty of room, there shouldn't be a problem.

I guess you start with an AVI (DivX or XviD) and Nero is creating a Video DVD from it. You should expect 3-4 times the bitrate/file size when doing this conversion. Now, Nero is not the sharpest tool in the drawer for this kind of conversion - better try Convertx2dvd or FAVC. Or better yet - get a DVD player that also plays XviD/DivX AVI and don't convert at all - just burn the AVI as data and play.

If you want to keep them as avi files then burn them as data using the Burning ROM part of Nero. If you use NeroVision, or burn a video, Nero will convert the file.
Honestly, don't you think that if a movie could be put on a DVD, at DVD quality, in 700 MB, we wouldn't see a lot more compilation discs ?Read my blog here.
