wow.. this is crazy.. they've got some pretty violent, yet edited movies there.. the die hard trilogy without violence? wtf?

they're selling backups without originals.. well, they're exepecting you to have the original and go by the "honor system"..

sounds like this thread could get interesting..

  9. Didn't one of the large retailers (Walmart?) until recently stock edited DVD's before the MPAA complained?

lines were meant to be crossed, people were meant to be offended, dvd-r's were meant to be burned.. its the circle of life.

There was a time when "Saturday Night Fever" was available as an edited family version and the film was rated only PG.

I would never buy a film as edited and if I do buy one found to be edited I'll be annoyed.

This is one example recently, "The Usual Suspects" is found to be released as edited in Australia and cut by 20 minutes to the US released version.

I complained to the shop assistant and told him the situation that this film is nothing like what I saw in the NYC cinema. I told him that I am intending in getting the US version soon.

It does seem like I’ve being ripped off by the censors in Australia. The Australian release on films on DVD and VHS should be unedited and parallel with the US releases and at the same time.

Newly released films on DVD should be available on one date worldwide, and then we don’t need to have region coding on the players.

“Finding Nemo” is set in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and in Sydney and Walt Disney films saw fit to delay the release here. It is ridiculous that a film “Finding Nemo” was just being released yesterday in Australia and available in the US for months now.

Just makes me wonder who on the inside is making the profit from black market. If the global economy were truly open, where would the profit be other than honest comitation

I remember years ago wanting to get a copy of a Glenn Frey concert on VHS that was filmed in Dublin. But as it was initially for the US market, it took about 2 years to filter back onto the mean streets of Dublin! Now of course we'd have a pirated DVD screener before it has even hit the pressing plant!

And is "Finding Nemo" even available in the UK yet? I know its not long out of the cinemas.
