  1. I tried backing up my discs with the new DVDShrink 3.1 program today. It's a little different from DVDShrink 3.0 beta5 because it creates a new VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder!!

    Make sure you know this.

I burned a disc specifying to put it inside a VIDEO_TS folder, and now I have an AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS inside my VIDEO_TS folder.

Great program, just be aware of how it works. The behavior has changed..

  2. It probably does this because it can now burn to disk using nero automatically. You only have to put in the blank disk when prompted. Worked perfectly.

  3. dvdflea,

You didn't look that closely the creation of the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS is optional. You can choose to create them or not when you process with DVDShrink 3.1.

When you click backup you have the option to create them or not.

  4. yep, like Nplayer said, the newest version of dvdshrink allows you to be able to choose whether or not to make those folders. It's under the preferenes tab. What an Amazing program dvdshrink is. I know it's listed as free, but hopefully others will donate too. The newest version is the best yet. The one thing I didn't like was it kept the "layer breaks" in the .ifo when there was no reason to keep them. Fortunately, I noticed this early on, so I just used IFOEDIT to take care of that problem after dvdshrink output the files. So none of my back-ups will have a slight pause in any set-top player. But this latest version is simply amazing! Thanks to the DVDShrink team!

  5. I went to edit->preferences. You guys are seeing something I'm not. Where do you configure this option?

It's interesting that you mention the layer breaks, because "remove layer break" is checked off by default. See edit-> preferences.

Are you saying it doesn't actually remove the layer break?? Is there a bug?

Anyway, it's as if we are looking at different "preferences" since you are seeing things I'm not, and overlooking things I see in there.

  6. dvdflea, you can actually check or uncheck the creation of the Audio_ts and Video_ts folders when you hit backup you will see that choice given to you. If you want them created, just check it.

Now on the layer breaks, yes, the older versions would make the .ifo file also have the layer break which made no sense as a DVDR won't have a layer break. Many players will cause a light skip. Only one of my players causes this skipping, but I still wanted to remove the layer break so I had to use ifoedit after I used dvdshrink in order to remove it. It has worked perfectly. But now I don't have to worry about that as the layer break is removed automatically.

  7. OK, Cheers. I got you now.

Thanks for everyone's help. Anyway, the main purpose of this thread was just to make everyone aware that the default behavior had changed slightly from 3.0b5 to 3.1

I was so used to 3.0b5 behavior that I had a "rhythm" going. When I used 3.1 , I had an extra directory structure inside my VIDEO_TS and didn't realize it until it didn't play in my set top box.

I'm glad there's a workaround in the program; I hope other people will remember to set the option or at least be aware of the changes, and not make coasters like I did.

    All the best,
    dvdflea

  8. looks like there is a bug in the latest DVDSHRINK version, Version 3.1.2. The problem is with the layer break in the .ifo files that the latest version was supposed to take care of. When doing a full disk backup the layer breaks are successfully removed, but when doing movie only in reauthor mode, the layer breaks are still present in the .IFO.

Oh well, looks like i'll have to keep using ifoedit after DVDSHRINK to remove them.

  9. My problems stem from names too, just differently..

With a ripped dvd (via dvddecryptor), I use the files button, navigate to the video_ts folder, and click ok, and dvdshrink says it can't find video_ts.ifo (thats after dvddecrypt has ripped them to VTS_01_0.IFO and VTS_01_1.VOB (and on)). There's no amount of mucking about will get dvdshrink to accept those ripped files (direct from dvd is fine tho).

Renaming doesn't work - it seems I have to open the ifo file and rename them all internally as well.

It's just not worth the trouble.... pity, dvdshrink used to be great!
