Will a DVD-R, with a movie, be able to play on a Playstation 2?
The media that I will be using is the Maxell 'green' media DVD-R
My DVD Burner is the Pioneer A05

I've successfully played a Ritek DVD-R and a Memorex DVD+RW on my playstation. Those are the only two formats I've tried.

Depends on the condition of your PS2.
I own a version 1,3,4 and have access to a version 7 and 9. DVD-R plays in all of the above versions, but 1,3,and 4 won't play DVD-RW.
The version 1 is really picky about the brand of media. Only plays Ritek 20-25% of the time, even then it hardly finishes a whole movie without skipping. Taiyo Yuden has had a 100% succes so far.
The early PS2 versions (1-4) also have some issues with certain DVD Authoring programs.
Some of these problems may be fixed with a firmware upgrade, if Sony would make it easy enough to find -
My PS2 plays Traxdata DVD-RW just fine. Tried a Fujifilm DVD+RW with no luck...

I have version 7 and it's played everything I've put in it including TDK, Verbatims and most Princo's.

I have version 9 and it play DVD-R and DVD+RW just fine other than that (DVD+R, haven't tried DVD-RW) it won't play at all and also will make some ugly noice when try to read those discs.
