Okay, this may be the most pathetic question I've ever asked.

I was getting an error trying to frameserve in TMPGenc. I thought I had followed all the steps I was supposed to. I copied the two .dll files to C:\windows\system, I double clicked on "proxyon" in the AVIproxy file. But I either forgot or missed the part where it said you were supposed to edit your registry in the "Install Handler" portion of the process where it tells you to move the .dll files.

Problem is, I don't know how to edit my registry. I mean, I know to do Run...regedit, but then what do I say? The instructions just say to add VDRemote class and AVIfile entries to the registry. What are the VDRemote and AVIfile classes and how do I add them to the registry? I looked in my registry and it looked like something called AVIfile was already there, but no VDRemote.

    KSJ, feeling stupid.

Sometimes I use VirtualDub to frameserve to TMPGEnc. I never copied any .dll to the system directory. Look here ,how to install the handler, it's much easier than you think. Last but not least is is not necessary to run proxyon.reg, because TMPGEnc accept .vdr files as video source.

Those are the instructions I am working off of. It seemed to me that when I opened the "install handler" window in AuxSetup, what was contained inside the window were instructions. Add the vdremote.dll file to d:\windows\system\. Add the other dll file to the same directory. Then add the vdremote class and avifile entries to the registry. Since I had moved the two .dll files manually per the instructions it appeared to be giving, I assumed I had to manually add the vdremote class and avifile entries to the registry as well.

Is there something I am missing? When I open "install handler" does that do it automatially for me? It never confirms that it does anything--it just gives me a window with the above instructions. What do I have to do to get those instructions to execute automatically?

Otherwise, why is it that when I go to start the frameserver, in the window that says "Frameserver Mode - VirtualDub" at the top, on the line that is highlighted, "Frameclients installed" instead of saying "AVIFile only," mine says "none."

Okay, it was definitely a dumb question. What I wasn't doing was clicking the mouse in the window with the "instructions" before hitting "okay." Once I did that, I got a confirmation message and now things work. Problem solved.
