  1. Hi,

Mpegs are digital aren't they, so how come when I export an mpeg via the firewire port and the Canopus nothing shows on the screen? The dipswitch is set to 'digital in', and I can playback the original DV capture on the TV. I don't want to see that though, I want to check out the mpeg before burning and I would have thought the Canopus would have converted them to DV on the way out. Am I missing something?

Also, though I have a PAL signal I tried converting to NTSC SVCD (I swap files with a couple of Americans with no PAL capability). It looks fine, no audio probs (Tmpgenc looked a bit weird, but Media Studio and Procoder did great) and certainly gives better results than doing a pal svcd>ntsc conversion. However, is it a real conversion? My DVD player might be reconverting on the fly and if it was played on a real NTSC system the audio might be high pitched or something! Or it might still be PAL and I only think it's NTSC!!

There are differences between the PAL and NTSC conversion, and the former is better, but the loss for NTSC is very minor. I'm even wondering whether I could set the capture to NTSC even though it's a PAL signal - but again I'm not sure if this would be a true conversion. Even though they have different framerates, the audio remains in sync and sounds normal. Admittedly I've only been working with 10 minute clips for NTSC, so maybe that isn't enough to tell. Anyone know?

    Thanx!

It would help if you posted what program you use to output video from your Canopus? I use the Pyro A/V Link, and Ulead Video Studio 6 and 7 to output video to it so I can record to my camera, VCR, or view it on my TV.
    Hello.

  3. Media Studio mainly. Though I have tried Premiere with same result ie DV will appear on tv but not the mpeg. Tried both the 'export as dv recording' and 'print to tape'

Are you saying you are getting the Mpeg showing up on tv screen?

  4. I got it playing the mpegs on TV finally! Unfortunately it's a bit jerky, although of course it's fine once burned. However I'd prefer to view the mpeg smoothly....and am now looking for an app that will let me do that. Can't seem to find one.
