  1. I am trying to convert an .avi file to MPEG-2 using TMPGEnc and when I locate the file, I get the message that it is unsupported. I read the Common TMPGEnc Problems post but to no avail.

I also ran AVICodec and looked at the list of codecs/filters but didn't know whether I need to download the entire list, or just a few??

What I can't figure out is that all my .avi files play on my PC and one of my .avi files doesn't get the same 'unsupported' message in TMPGEnc.

Why does one .avi file work but not the rest?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.

  2. "avi" is sorta like "automobile" - very generic descriptor.

You might also try Gspot to get a better handle on what that file really is...
and then search the guides on l/h side of this page for options.

  3. Ok thanks.

I downloaded GSpot which told me the file was OpenDML AVI. Do you know what I need to do with this file?

    Thanks

Gspot should have told you which codec you need to view / play the file.
    Download and install them.

I use DVD2SCVD to convert mine avi files, with cce. Works flawlessly.
