  1. I'm about to toss everything out the window. I'm trying to get a dvd to an avi file. I've tried using dvdx and dvd2avi. Here's the problem, with dvd2avi I can get an avi file, but i get no audio.

With dvdx, once I start the conversion, it tells me it'll take about 18 hours!!!! I don't have 18 hours to burn one single dvd. dvd2avi takes about 3 hours. but no audio. I have an athlon xp2000 and 512 megs ram. This doesn't seem right.

    Any help????

  3. I'm not sure what specs you are asking for but it's a fairly small file. It's a concert dvd which I was able to fit onto a dvdr with no compression.

When I used dvd2avi I got a 700 meg video file. I dont know how dvdx will turn out since I dont have the patience to wait 18 hours for it.

I guess I basically have two issues that need solving.

    1. why am I not getting audio using dvd2avi, and,

    2. Why does dvdx take so long? Am I using the wrong codec or something? I've tried cinepac, microsoft, and divx 4.12.

  4. Does DVD2AVI not output a separate audio file

In the audio menu are you selecting a Track number for it to Demux or decode ?

if so, then you should get an AC3/MPA/WAV file in the same DIR as you AVI, depending on the DVD's original audio format and whether you are demuxing or decoding. Decoding will give a WAV file for sure.

Once you have this audio file you to mux it into your AVI - maybe after re-encoding it if it's a huge WAV file.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Ok so with dvd2avi I have to go another step and combine the audio with the video after it's done? If so, how would I do this?
