  1. Help.Ive got two d/loaded movie files that i want to convert and put onto one dvd.Ive read all the how to's but am still getting stuck at the same point.
Extracted the mpegs with vcd gear (success)
Joined the mpegs with easy video joiner (success)
Trying now to re-encode mpeg1 to mpeg2 with Mainconcept mpeg encoder
It does the first part fine but when it comes to the join it stops and says that the files werent joined correctly.
Ive watched the mpeg with the join and the picture does go funny for a split second but doesnt sop with either wmp or power dvd.Do i need to edit the joint somehow?.Can anybody help.
    Thanks in advance.

Try SVCD2DVDMPG, here's a guide. Read step C, "never join your source mpegs."

You don't need to re-encode your mpegs if they are VCD's. Quality suffers, it takes longer and they are DVD compatible already.

You don't need to join your mpegs, it causes glitches and sync problems and the files can instead be authored together.

BTW, there's several ways to accomplish what you're attempting. Look in the guides under format conversion - VCD to DVD.

    Hope that helps.

  3. Thanks for the reply ZippyP.But im not sure what im doing wrong.I am following a "How To" and have managed to get hold of all the programs it uses.I tried to join the two parts with Tmpgenc but just got audio sync problems.
I dont understand what you mean when you say vcd's are dvd compatible already. When i tried to author with tmpgenc dvd author i just got a load of red fatal error messages.
Need more help explaining what im doing wrong i think.

  4. Let me get this right.
For Tmpgenc Dvd Author to open the file it must be a svcd?
If i try to encode the two parts separate then author them sperate i get a clash with the two sets of numbers (vobs and ifos) when i try to burn with nero.Or am i doing this wrong too?.
    I need help and quick

Which "how to" are you following?

VCD video should be 352x480 resolution mpeg1 which is acceptable for DVD as well. The audio, however, is not DVD acceptable and you will need to convert it from 44.1 KHz to 48 KHz. It's all covered in one of the VCD to DVD guides.

No, SVCD2DVDMPEG does VCD as well, if that's what your thinking. SVCD resolution of 480X480 is not DVD compliant but many DVD players will play such a disk.

Encode separate, author together if that's the route you're choosing to go. Put them into the authoring step at the same time.

Those are the valid DVD resolutions, although the 352X240/288 can be mpeg 1 or 2.

I think thats the line that johns0 was referring to, and is incorrect. I am sure you meant 325*240

I've got at problem with this, when I try to add a file with 480 verticale lines in Tmpgenc dvd author it cant read it. Something about GOP ... Also the 30fps should be 25fps for PAL...

For tmpgenc dvd author to accept a mpg 1 and 2 files they should be 352x240/288(mpg1),352x480/576(mpg2) 720(704)x480/576(mpg2) and gop frames limited to 18 frames maximum for all mpg`s and audio has to be 48khz mp2 or ac3 or lpcm, some dvd players cant play mp2 so ac3 and lpcm are more widely accepted.

How can I change GOP frames so tmpgenc dvd author can accept it?

Re-encode the movie with the gop set to 18 frames max for ntsc or 15 frames for pal max in the tmpgenc advanced settings.
