  1. ok so i'm trying to make a kvcd out of a PAL XviD. problem is that whenever i try to convert the XviD into MPG using TMPGEnc, the video is jerky and kinda looks like it's going slightly in slow motion. at first i thought it was my XviD codec but i have no clue which one of the 50 million of them to download and install.

i've read the posts here looking for a solution and it seems others have had the same problem with XviD files but never with DivX and i've noticed the same. some posts have recommended that you convert the XviD to DivX and then go on to make the vcd/kvcd.

is that a good idea? i thought you lost quality everytime you convert a file from one format to another. but i can't seem to get these damn XviD files to play properly so i'm getting desperate.

and if it is a good idea...what's the best way to do it? i've read that virtualdub will do it but i'm not exactly sure what the steps are.

Yes, you lose every time you convert. Instead of re-compressing with Vdub you can frameserve it directly to TMPGEnc. No intermediate file required and no loss involved. Here's a guide.
