when clone dvd states that say, the quality of the copied dvd is going to be say 65% what exactly does this mean, i know that dvdrs are smaller and than normal dvds, and therefore the data must be compressed, but what quaility is reduced? is the film reduced noticably in quaility? or just the menus?

I am no expert but If I see the quality bar in the red or at 50% or less I will back up to DVD-RW and view the results...also be wary of long movies (3 hours or more)...I would think 65% would be no problem at all....

I generally skip all the menus and extras, movie only for my backups.

if you have 55% compression and you can hardly tell the difference then I hope you never switch to HD equipment. you will be disappointed to see the quality of your backups on a high quality set.

  6. Yeah, I agree with Sunderland. I still say that all you guys who think 60% and up compression is bad are imagining things....you must be the type of people who think 192kbps MP3's also sound bad...

dude 36inches is small...try it on a 52inch+ plasma screen and you will wish you encoded the movie better

if you are happy with it then leave it alone...

if you have never tried high quality equipment then don't assume someone is imagining things.

  8. Just because I have a small TV doesnt mean I dont have high quality equipment
I've watched my encoded movies on one of those wall-projectors, and I cant see anything wrong. And no, im not blind.

  10. a little fuel to the fire to keep it burning..hehe.

Seriously people with HD this and HD this a DVD 720x480 sucks the beans as it is. When your TV is doing 1080i or whatever how in the heck are you even satisfied with an original dvd. I know I wouldn't. BTW, I have a dinky 32" TV and when I grew up had a 5" Black and White TV in my room.

  11. I love Clone DVD and I've used it exclusively for a while now, instead of DVD2ONE. I like the speed of the latter, but the quality of the backups are so much better. I did a backup of TRAINING DAY at about 65% with menus and while it wasn't the same as the original, it wasn't that far off. The DVD2ONE copy that I had was much grainier and dustier, epecially during darker scenes.
