  1. Okay, I've been trying to figure out what is causing this for days. So now I'm resorting to bothering you all. So thanks for your help in advance. It's very much appreciated.

    Hardware I'm Using:
    Ricoh RW5240A DVD+RW/+R burner
    FujiFilm DVD+RW 4X disks
    Apex AD-1500 Standalone DVD Player

I started out by capturing my video in VDub using the PICVideo codec at a setting of 19 for quality. So it pumps out some pretty large files, but the quality is really good coming from analog TV. I then opened the capture in VDub and saved the audio to .wav as I like it better this way.

Then using TMPGEnc ver. 2.56.39.143 Registered I encoded the video to MPEG2 using the HighQuality Guide for DVD's found here on DVDRHELP.COM. I've tried many other setups as well in TMPGEnc and still have the same results. At some point my video jets jumpy (or is no longer smooth). You can see when the video does a flip from one scene to another that it's like it's slowed down. But reallly it comes out looking more like it's jerky. I've encoded the video from 3000 all the way to 8000 kbps. It doesn't seem to help. The other thing is that I only notice this on the Apex AD-1500 player. If I play it on the PC either as a file on the Hard Drive or off the DVD+RW I burned I don't see it happening. Now this could be because the drive burned the disk or it could be that the Apex DVD Player isn't handling something properly.

Anyway, what I'm hoping for is a nudge in the right direction for correcting this. I'm hoping someone else will have experienced a similar problem and have a solution. I've burned the DVD+RW with the tools in TMPGEnc DVD Author and Nero. That didn't seem to fix anything either.

Thanks again for any advice or help you can lend. I'm at a loss on how to get this working now.
    Thanks,
    -Frank

Try encoding a clip without the audio and see if it plays smooth as some players have a hard time with Mpeg2 audio. You may have to convert the audio to AC3.

    Just a thought,

  3. are you changing the frame rate of the original file!
is so try using vdub as a frame server! tmpgenc does a crap job when changing the frame rate!
I had a jeky movement problem! especially during large scenes! used vdub do frame serve and the problem dissapeared.

    just a thought!!!!

  6. don't think frame serving will help as you mention that your dvd works fine on your pc! might be the brand of blank dvd's you are using!
maybe you could try playing your authored dvd on another set top dvd player! this will elimate your player!

  10. It can be one of 2 problems IMHO.

    1: Wrong field order.

If the field order is wrong, the video will play fine on your PC, but when played on your stand-alone DVD player, will jump when there is movement on the screen.

2: Apex player plays disks poorly

I own 4 dvd players, a Sanyo, a Pioneer, and 2 Apex units. I had to go thru many brands of DVD's to fine one that would play perfectly everytime on my Apex.

  11. I agree with Barnabas...

My Apex player has trouble playing any transitions, especially fade-ins from black. The video will slow drastically. If there is audio playing underneath it, it will skip until the fade is complete. My JVC player will not do this, nor will playing it on my PC.

I have also made the mistake of arranging the field order. If it looks jumpy throughout the video, this most likely is the problem. Just reverse it and it should look fine.

  13. The best disks I have ever used are made by Dynex. They always play back perfectly. The only one disk I ever had any trouble with from Dynex was one that the hub was not drilled quite big enough on and was a hair too tight.

  15. I find that using Memorex media works without any problems (some people may disagree). I have used the "El Cheapo" (for those who know) discs too. My Apex player seems to do the same thing no matter what brand of media I have used. It's an early, $40 1010W model so that may be the issue. Although, I have to say that this little thing will play high-bitrate XSVCDs (>2500K) whereas my $250 JVC lunches right on the spot trying to play these discs.
