  1. I borrow a friends Dazzle 80 USB to try out and the video quality
was OK but it dropped frames like crazy. So, I saw the sale at
compusa.com on the Avermedia DVD EZMaker PCI for $20. I thought
that at the worst the Aver video would be good enough and maybe it
would not drop frames like the dazzle.

Now the problem, the video quality from the Aver is worse than the
Dazzle. It's like the video is out of focus, the reds, blues, green are taring
apart and that leaves thin black lines when scenes change quickly.

I tried two different video sources, RCA and S-Video cables and iuvcr,
virtualdub, NeoDVD software. I could not get the Ulead VS 7 software
to use any resolution but 320x240. Nothing made any difference.

I this normal for these Aver's or did I get a bad card? Should I exchange
the card for another or return it give up on the Aver?

    System:
    Windows XP Pro
    ABIT NF7-S
    Athlon XP 1700
    512MB Ram
    Radeon 9700 Pro
    3 Hd's
    3 Cd's

  2. Could be just macrovision copy protection on the source assuming it was a VHS tape.

Anyway I bet I captured 50 VHS tapes with the same card and it never dropped a single frame plus the video quality was very satisfactory (but not as good as my Panasonic E50 reorder). I used NeoDVD Plus to do the capture, editing, authoring, and burning (a simple effective and cheap program).

Give up. It's normal, because it's a bad card. Few people do have success with them, but I've relegated mine to a junk drawer.

  4. The taring of the colors even happens when the JVC VCR is on the
"On-Screen Menus". The second source I used was a video camera
    that only has analog outputs.

So you think I just got a bad card?
