    Hi!
I would like to know if it is possible to use avermedia capture hd pci card with firewire/dv output of a sony videocam.
I am currently cupturing through s-video because the sony outputs rgb and the avermedia recieves component...
I would like however to use the DV out because it is supposed to be the highest quality.
My computer has firewire inputs and it is possible to capture through it with windows movie maker.
However, i would like to capture through the avermedia software and use its hardware h264 compression.

    Thx for the help.

capture the tape over firewire with winDV and then use the saved file in the software of your choice. there are lots of other 264 encoders if avermedia won't load them.

    Thx for the reply,
However, i need a simplified solution as i am capturing realtime surgery.
I do not want to capture with one software and then edit with another. I would like to use the avermedia card to capture , show realtime fullscreen preview and encode to h264 via FIREWIRE if possible.
    Any other suggestions ?

no. it's not a firewire card if it's the one i'm thinking of. you could get a new cam and record HD over hdmi if you wanted higher quality.
