  1. Hi all, here's a weird problem:. I've been using CCE in DVD2SVCD with no problems so far. Yesterday, I was doing a 4 pass VBR from an IFO/VOB folder and halfway thru got the following message:

"CCE Encoding Failed:Error: Video check-sum is different from that of previous pass. Source video data or time code may be different. Please check video tape or the information file."

Can anyone translate this into English for me? I use CCE in safe frameserving mode and DVD2SVCD runs on a P4. Haven't had this problem before either in AVI mode or DVD mode - any ideas?

    TIA

    JDC

OK. Heres ANOTHER weird thing: I just clicked ok on the CCE error message window (writing this message as its happening) and CCE started up again from where it stopped. Anyway, if anyone's had this problem, I'd appreciate a couple of lines on it. Thx.

  5. Anyone know why this happens? I installed the patch, but havent tried encoding again. What exactly does the patch do? Any downsides?

Why is the error even coming up?

In between each pass CCE checks the .vaf file to ensure that it is the same file from the previous pass. If it appears different, CCE gives this error. Its really a pretty unimportant precaution because there really wouldn't be any reason for the .vaf to be different.

The reason people get this error with CCE is because of hardware limitations. Apparantly on some setups the temporary cache does not get deleted fast enough and basically CCE is using old data for its comparison.

The patch simply disables this checksum check entirely. As long as you don't go and try to swap out or move your .vaf file in between passes, there is no way this patch could have any detrimental effects. So no, there aren't any downsides. Anyone who uses CCE for multipass VBR should go ahead and install this patch first.
