  1. I have an dvd2svcd copy of a tv episode that has a 16:9 aspect ratio. All the other episodes in this series are 4:3, so I think the creator of the svcd's slipped up on this one.

Is there an easy way to change the aspect ratio of this svcd? Or will the entire file have to be re-encoded?

I have TMpgEnc Plus 2.5 available, but I am willing to try other tools if it will let me fix this easily.

    Thanks,

You can encode it to 16:9 in TMPGEnc. But it won't display as 16:9. On 720/704 wide MPEG's can have the 16:9 DAR.

SVCD and VCD are 4:3 only. Most players ignore the DAR and just display it as 4:3. You can try and see if your player will do it, simply encode it to 16:9 and burn as a non-complient SVCD.

  3. It's already 16:9
I want to change it to be 4:3 like all the rest

  4. Changing the aspect ratio won't help. It has been encoded that way and SVCD will not resize from the dar during playback. You will need to reencode the file. I suggest load the mpeg in virtualdubmod, this way you can examine what type of letterboxing (black bars) it has, then post back here. perhaps include a screenshot of a frame from virtualdubmod then we can help more with specific repair details.

Maybe using a program that will do the header trick will fix this without re-encoding. I can't promise that the resulting file will work in your standalone DVD player, but a software DVD program on your computer will probably accept it.

    Use this program:
