Hi Everybody, I recently purchased a Cyberhome 1500 DVD Recorder , with it comes three DVD - RW , I made a recording on one of them and tried to play it back on my son's Sansui DVD player unfortunately his player would not playback and gives an error unknown format. Having read the manual I realized one had to finalize the DVD before playingback on other DVD players. I enterd the Record media menu in the setup options and there are two options available one to erase the DVD and the other to finalize the DVD, I am only able to access the erase function the menu does not allow me to scroll to the finalize option.
I would really appreciate some help fron you guys.
PS. I read the review by mp3superfreak and was most impressed by it.

In the menu, DVD+RW is made "Compatible"
and DVD+R is "Finalized"
That is why you can't "Finalize" a RW disc -
Hi Zleepy
I cannot find in the menu a the "Compatable" function, perhaps you can advise me where it is hidden. Many Thanks -
When in the menu press edit on the title and then select "Make Compatible". Depending on how many edits you have made it may take a while so be patient.
Be warned that it may appear that it has completed it but it has not until the title is highlighted again. -
singh,
You don't need to finalize DVD+RW. Try using DVD+R (don't forget to finalize it) as it is more compatible/reflective than DVD+RW. -
I believe that "Make Compatible" is available only when you EDIT.

Hi, Are you sure the cyberhome 1500 can record DVD - RW? The specifications I found on the net say it's a +R and +RW recorder.
Also, I just won an auction for a cyberhome 1500 on e-bay and now I'm looking for the best media W+ to transfer VHS videotapes to DVD media to play on a Cyberhome 500. Any suggestions/experiences?
Thank you -

Thanks for the info John. Well, since I'm looking to burn 100+ discs I don't see me buying that many +RW. So I guess I'm forced to record the tapes using first the cyberhome 1500 Rw+ and then passing the info to -R using a computer DVD rewriter (pioneer 106 I'm planning to buy). I hope at least the -R will work well with the cyberhome 500...not?.
Do you know a better (cheaper or faster) way to do it?

Thanks again John. I'll try that as soon I receive the cyberhome 1500. I need yet to decide what media brand & speed I'm going to use. I've heard TDK -Rx2 works well but I'll like to know your opinion, any advice?

Please note that not all FUJI DVD-R discs are Taiyo-Yuden. Only the FUJI DVD-R discs that say MADE IN JAPAN are Taiyo-Yuden. So far they only come in a 10-pack with each DVD-R in a full sized CD style jewel case. The larger "cake" packs of FUJI DVD-R discs say MADE IN TAIWAN and are typically RITEK G03 discs.
The 10-pack MAXELL DVD-R discs are also very good and come packaged just like the FUJI in full sized CD style jewel cases.
The FUJI 10-packs can be found at BEST BUY and somtimes CompUSA whereas lately only WAL-MART seems to carry the MAXELL 10-packs (and I think there is also a 5 pack version).
TDK DVD-R discs are good but only if the package says MADE IN JAPAN otherwise they say MADE IN TAIWAN and are RITEK G03 or if you are lucky RITEK G04 discs.
The 10-pack FUJI DVD-R discs are $24.99 at BEST BUY which is where I buy them since CompUSA wants $29.99 for the same thing. The 10-packs of MAXELL are something like $23.99 at WAL-MART but I don't care much for WAL-MART and avoid them if I can. The TDK discs I'm not as sure about price wise but again look for that MADE IN JAPAN. I bought a 5 pack of TDK DVD-R discs at TARGET a few weeks back and they said MADE IN JAPAN and worked really well.
I've yet to buy Taiyo-Yuden direct but RIMA.COM has the best price I've seen at $168.00 per cake pack of 100 4x DVD-R discs but I never bought them that way because although that is cheaper per disc than the FUJI way ... well ... I never seem to have $168.00 at any one time to order that many at once!
I was in BEST BUY last week and looked at the DVD+R discs just for shits and giggles. I wanted to see if any of them said MADE IN JAPAN. I couldn't find one package of DVD+R discs that said that.
MADE IN JAPAN DVD-R is the way to go for me

P.S.
Many people say the RITEK G04 discs are good but lately people have been SOMETIMES getting bad batches. That scares me."The eyes are the first thing that you have to destroy ... because they have seen too many bad things" - Lucio Fulci

A Recent Report On Nero - by gpwake on Dec 14, 2003 19:04

"With the new version of Nero I am able to use the VOB files directly from my cyberhome 1500 burned DVD's! This is the first software package that I have been able to do this with...Previously I needed to frist RIP the burned DVD's to my HDrive, then import them into TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVD lab...Just thought I would share my findings.
"I am SOLD on Nero 6! Recode also works GREAT...I have used it to make several backup copies of my DVD movies. Used it to fit Finding Nemo on one 4.7GB DVD+R and it worked GREAT!"
=============================================
FWIW While the Cyberhome site is down, files can be coppied to your folder from:
ftp://209.237.61.78/cyberhome/1500
2x click the selected folder and copy files to your desktop or folder.

Sorry for my non reply, I've been off line upgrading my system. -
Is there a way to make this recorder region free?
For general information I have great success with Memorex media in this recorder.
Thanks all
