I want MPEG2 quality but I want ~45min per CD....

If I compress with MPEG2 but push the bitrate down to near VCD levels, Will it look worse than VCD?

    eg. CCE MPEG2 MAX=1600 AVG=1150 MIN=950

    Would this work out?

    Thanks,

  2. Why would you need to do that? I put 45-50 min on a 80 min cd with bitrates about 2000... svcd

If you are going to lower the bitrate that much just use the vcd format and you can get 74min on a regular cd.

    I'm looking for better quality.

Does MPEG2 give better quality tahn MPEG1 at the same bitrate?

If I can fit 45 min on a CD @ SVCD quality then I'll be happy.

    Thanks,

The alogrithms (the math that makes it all work) differ so it is hard to compare BUT............. MPEG2 better suited for higher BR .

Up to about 2300 MPEG 1 is better
    2300-2600 differing opinions - i prefer MPEG1

What is your source ( DVD , TV , VHS tape )?

  5. See if your burner can use the 99min. CD-R's, I get 2520 bitrate on SVCD with 49min. per CD using these 99min. CD-R's from CompUSA and I have used over 30 of them without one problem and they play on any stand a lone DVD player I have tried them on, work also on my 16x IDE Pioneer computer DVD player and my wifes Creative labs 12x DVD computer Drive.
