  3. well i had a g-force video card and was unhappy with it (for it's tv out feature). So i went back with an ati and i picked up the first one you mentioned. the box itself doesnt tell you jack sh*t. i did pay a bit over/about 300 for it. I normally use my dazzle dvc 2 (PCI VERSION) to capture, but i wanted to play around with the ati. I noticed their were no inputs on the card and wasnt sure if the output could double function as an input. I went scrolling around a bit on the ati site but it gave no definite answer. It did have the wdm capture driver for download (for my card), so i dled it, but it still doesnt work. It also mentioned the card had to be an "all in wonder" 9800 version, which it does not state anywhere on my box. Mine ust has the radeon 9800 pro 128 on it. After seeing that, i took it that i probably needed another version. And if my version does do capturing it is surely not working. But thank you for the info though.

But the fact that the box didn't list word one about capture is all that is required to clearly state that it doesn't capture. It also doesn't state that the card is not cabable of launching to orbit or cooking you dinner, these are easily understood by the lack of any mention. Not that there isn't the occasional error where something has an extra feature left off the box, but it's extremely rare to not advertise such a major feature.

Likely the only reason it's mentioned in the manual is because the same manual is used for both cards, just with extra manuals or sections for the AIW card. The AIW card clearly states all over the box how it can tune and capture, if it's in there it's on the box. Drivers are equally meaningless, they try to only make one CD pressing.

Well ... my first ATI card was the 98 something ... simple video card but I wanted something for video capture.

After class in Fresno CA ... I drove down Blackstone Blvd ... gobs and gobs of stores ... geek paradise ... etc ... etc. Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City, The Good Guys, PCClub.

PCClub being my favorite computer parts store.

    http://www.pcclub.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=A3458851

They sell 25 Pack 1X DVD-R 4.7GB Cake Box (Minus)

    Item No: A3458851
Manufacturer: Generic ... Shiny Silver ... top and purplish on data side.
    Availability: LIMITED .... Price: $24.99*

and right now they have on sale ...

    80GB 7200RPM Maxtor IDE Hard Drive ATA133
    Item No: A3450889
    Manufacturer: Maxtor
    Availability: IN STOCK Price: $69.99*
"Price for this item is for on-line ordering only, in-store price may vary"

anyways ... first store I tried was ...

I went into Sparkys Electronics ... they had one Computer Video Card.

It was the ATI Radeon 64 VIVO [video in / video out] for $80 ... $150 at all the other stores ... in a plain white box.

The jacks for VIVO were right there in the back ... no fancy breakout box attachment.

My ATI AIW 7500 ... does have a break out attachment.

So my friend ... your clue for finding video capture features varies but most likely ATI is now using the Breakout corded attachment for connecting audio in and video in.

This feature is pretty visible on the boxes when checking them out.
