  1. I tried both Optodisc 4X (gold-topped) and Memorex 4X.

    Tested softwares:
    Nero 6.0.0.23
    RecordNow DX 4.60

    Firmware: latest = A301

Both softwares max me to 2X write on these medias...

I read a thread on this forum about firmware A301 which is supposed to permit 4X write on Princo...but what for Memorex and Optodisc ?

Ok, LG drive is cheaper but if a have to pay more for chosen media to write at 4X...i will return the 4040B and exchange it for Pioneer A06 or Sony or Plextor...

    I don't know...please help.

Oh... I include the DVDInfoPro readout for Optpdisc 4X gold topped:

Memorex +R 4x has always burned at 4x speeds for me, even before the A301 firmware, I suppose you're talking about Memorex -R?

I've been burning Princo's 4x, no trouble, but I gave up using Nero 6 and
use Nero 5.5.10.54, never had a DUD!.

  4. Hope I'm not hijacking the thread but...

I recently bought a IOMEGA dual burner and a whole heap of Shintaro 4x (Princo) blank disks. (silly me)

Now to try and lessen the chance of errors on the resulting burn I have been forcing NERO 6 to burn at 2x. Unfortunately every disk I have done has had CRC errors when the verify happens.

Recently I have been leaving the write speed at 4x and wala! every disk I have burt has had a successful verify. (so far)

Can anyone explain if there is a reason for this? Looks like the Princo 4x disks dont like being burn at 2x

    Thanks in advance.

  5. yeah i mean Memorex -R 4X....

I only want to burn -R cause on this forums lots of threads said -R has a little more compatibility...

And on xbox-scene.com forums, they said same thing about -R being more compatible with XBOX.

But what for me ? Do you advice me to wait until a new firmware or firmware hack to burn Optodisc at 4X or you advice me to change my burner for A06, Sony or Plextor...

    Please give me some suggestions.

    Thanks.

Around here, the Memorex -R 4x discs have been known to be of substandard quality as compared to their +R cousins. I would look around and find other -R discs, possibly from Ritek (make sure they're G04 if you want to burn at 4x) or if all else fails, Princo 4x -R.

I had LEADDATA DVD-Rs that were labelled at 4X but only burned at 2X on my drive.

    RITEKG04 DVD-R and RICOHJPNR01 DVD+R burned at 4X no problems.

RITEKG03 burned at 2X which was a nice suprise.

Thats all I tried so far.

  13. Princo 4X white-topped burn at 4X !!!
    The only one for now...

Anyway, i think my next batch will be Verbatim even if my dvd-rw 2x is not performing always perfectly....i know it`s the fault of the THOMSON crappy drive in my XBOX.
