Write in the air...

Hello, I'm trying to find some help with adding an effect to a video I want to make. What I would like to do is write a word in the air with my finger and then edit the video to add a line that follows my finger to make it look like I wrote the letters right on screen or in the air. Would anybody know what type of software could help me do this? If there are any free ones that can do this, that would be even better. I appreciate any info you might have.

Study "Video Tracking" and find software or a plugin that complements the effect. Wrigleyvideo.com has some great tutorials on the subject.
