I used a Windows Media Player in the Windows XP to write the pictures to a CD R disc. After that, I could not delete a picture but can replace it with a new picture. Why can the file be not deleted but replaced?

Do you mean the Windows Media can delete individual/one file/picture in a CD RW disc?

    CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW do not and cannot
behave like magnetic disks. Try DVD-RAM if your DVD-drive supports it.
OR learn how to use an actual disk-burning software.
