  1. I'm getting a Sharp DVD recorder, the one talked about in this forum. I downloaded the manual and read almost all of it but I have a question about it.

I understand that VR mode is something only for DVD-RW's on this drive. After you finalize a disk written in VR mode, can you then open it on a standard DVD_ROM drive on your PC? Will I then be able to read the VRO files and edit them with something like Tmpg DVD Author?

Also, if you delete scenes or clips on the dvd-rw and then finalize it, it actually erases those parts of the VRO files? So if you copy the VRO files, you'll get the "Edited" clip? Or will it be a bunch of VRO pieces all over the place?

  2. I am no expert in this, but I was reading somewhere (if I reme, ber right) that you can just rename VRO to MPG and you have mpeg file. Try searching.

  3. I have the Sharp and I burned some tv onto a dvd-rw with commercials and it totaled out at about 4 hrs. I finalized the RW and loaded it onto my pioneer A05 and opened the VR directory with DVD Author.

It required that I convert the file to the harddrive for editing and it produced a compliant mpg file without intervention.

I loaded the file into DVD Author, removed commercials, made chapters, and burned, No Issues!

I tried editing the VR folder on the Sharp and it worked but those darn remote control buttons don't get it done and it did truncate a few of the attempts leaving me with the first cuts viewable on my DVD-rom but still functional on the Sharp.

    I hope this helps!

  5. Hey, I have two DVD-RW VR mode disks and need to rip them on my XP PC. What software can I use to do this?

I need to rip it to SVCD or VCD.

I did transfer the VRO file onto my HD and tried changing the extension to MPG. This works to a degree, but when I open up the mpeg file in Media Player Classic, MPC says the clip is 29 minutes long when really it's 3 hours. If I jump around the clip inside of MPC, all three hours are there. When I open it up in an editor, it doesn't play the sound and it also displays the clip inconsistently. I wish I could describe it better than that. I play part of the clip, but when I hit pause, to make a cut, the picture switches to a completely different scene.

At this point, I'd be happy to get the footage to raw AVI.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Cyberlink PowerProducer 2 is the only app I've been able to find that will read DVD-RW VR mode on WinXP. Just make like you're creating a new DVD, select import DVD content and it saves it as an MPEG2 file in your documents folder. I think there's a trial version of this. I don't use this software for much else, but for this it works well.
