I'm trying to put 1hr 30 mins of dv home video onto dvd but my end product is not too clever,
I've captured via firewire edited with pinnacle studio and created avi using microsoft dv codec, then encoded with tsunami using the wizard(I find it easier than using a bitrate calculator)
It was a constant bitrate of just under 6000 which i thought was perfectly adequate.(motion search was set to high quality)
but the final product viewed on my tv was lacking detail in certain parts which were fine on the original tape.
My main questions are:
1: is my bitrate too low and would i benefit from vbr
2: should i try a different encoder (ie: mainconcept)
3: can i get a better result with a different codec
4 Or am i just trying to squeeze to much video onto a dvd and expecting to high a result.

Once you have your DV captured, try using TMPGEnc (tsunami) to convert it into a MPEG DVD format video. If you only need to edit one part of the video, try the Source Range function. To edit several parts, encode the entire video to MPEG, then use MPEG Tools Merge & Cut function for final editing, since it does not re-encode.

Don't use any other codec than "DV Video Encoder". Read post in my signature for more info.
